Monika From Gasgoo| November 08 , 2018

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The BYD Song MAX DM and the BYD Tang EV will reportedly be available for presale at the upcoming Auto Guangzhou 2018, according to local media. The BYD Tang EV is expected to go on sale in December.

The BYD Song MAX DM features several nuances in the design of intake grille and the trims of fog lights over the gasoline-powered version. Besides, the DM version is outfitted with multi-spoke rims with the charging port located at the right rear fender.

Inside, the Song MAX DM carries a large-sized rotatable screen in the area of the center console. The logo of a Chinese character “宋” in the middle of the steering wheel turns into blue. In addition, the new vehicle adopts the same electronic gear lever as the BYD Song DM.

The new DM version will be powered by 1.5L turbocharged engine and two electric motors at the front and rear axles, hooked up to a 6-speed dual clutch transmission. This power system can generate a combine output of 333kW with a combine torque of 740 N·m.

The BYD Tang EV features the all-new matrix-type intake grille, which resembles the armor dressed on Terracotta Warriors. The L-shaped chrome trim on both sides of the front face is much bigger than that of the fuel-burning version.

The Tang EV features the same design as the DM version in terms of side profile. It is noteworthy that the EV will offer the Continental tires in the size of 265/40 R22 and six-piston calipers from Brembo. At the rear end, the integrated LED source is still used for taillights.

The neat interior design looks similar to the Tang DM. With the 2-3-2 seat layout, the Tang EV is still fitted with a rotatable screen on the center console and a full liquid crystal instrument panel. Moreover, the ball-shaped electronic gear lever is different from the DM version.

Powering the EV may be a ternary-lithium battery pack and two electric motors at the front and rear axles, which can provide the EV with a combine range up to 500km and make it sprint from 0-100km/h within less than 4.5 seconds.

As for specific BEV segments in October, the A00-class’ sales evidently grew 37% from the previous year to 51,274 units, accounting for 55% of the total BEV PV sales which was 16 percentage lower than that of a year ago. The A-class’ Oct. sales skyrocketed 169% YoY to 26,712 units, while declined 12% compared with the September. Still struggling to wean itself off gasoline?

Gasoline engine kicks in when power is about to get drained. It is kind of a back-up engine. In normal driving, driver has option to use pure electric engine only.

Maybe also has to do with pricing. Normally BYD has pure electric, as well, like Tang SUV.

...and the “primary” battery range is what? 50k? 80km?

I guess around 80 to 100km (stable driving).

Again, it has more to do with pricing than availability of technology. More expensive models have larger ranges (3500-500km) on pure electric, even for a 7 seat SUV.

Nice, after dominating the smartphone market, Chinese companies should target this industry next.

BYD new “e” product matrix consisting of 8 EV models

Molly From Gasgoo| November 07 , 2018

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD plans to build the "e" product matrix consisting of 8 EV models—the BYD S2, S3, S5, e1, e2, e3, e5 and e6, according to local media. This indicates that the automaker will roll out more new EV models in the future.

BYD's existing "Dynasty" product lineup is composed of the Qin, Tang, Song, Yuan series. Unlike the “Dynasty” lineup, the vehicles belonging to the "e" lineup feature the English logo of “BYD” rather than the Chinese character "比亚迪".

The BYD e5 and e6, two BEV models currently available for sale, will be used for ride hailing and car sharing services, according to the company's latest product planning.

The other 6 models cover various segments in EV domain. The BYD S3 and S5 are all-electric SUV models. The BYD S2, e1, e2 and e3 are respectively positioned as the sub-compact SUV, mini sedan, sub-compact crossover SUV and compact sedan.

BYD launched an innovative e-Platform and DiLink Intelligent Network System at the Auto China in Beijing. The e-platform is BYD's brand new BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) platform, which boasts such features as independent innovation, high integration and exceptional performance.

The e-platform can be elucidated through a series number of "33111". The "33" means the "three-in-one" powertrain and the “three-in-one” power distribution assembly. The "111" stands for a motherboard, a panel and a battery. To be specific, the first "1" is a PCB board integrating dozen of control modules such as car lamps, air conditioners and smart keys, etc. The second "1" represents a large-sized car-borne smart rotatable screen outfitted with the DiLink intelligent system, and the third "1" refers to a high-performance power battery module.

The e-platform has by far seen the birth of the BYD Yuan EV360 and the Qin EV500.

Europeans seem to be going electric rather than Hybrid. That's interesting.
