President Donald Trump has emphasized military might during his first year in office, but the US is not the only country seeking to expand its battlefield capacities. Between 2012 and 2016, more weapons were delivered than during any five-year period since 1990.

Arms sales indicate who is beefing up their armed forces, but head-to-head military comparisons are harder to come by. Global Firepower's 2017 Military Strength Ranking tries to fill that void by drawing on more than 50 factors to assign a Power Index score to 133 countries.

The ranking assesses the diversity of weapons held by each country and pays particular attention to the manpower available. The geography, logistical capacity, available natural resources, and the status of local industry are also taken into account.

While recognized nuclear powers receive a bonus, the nuclear stockpiles are not factored into the score.

Moreover, countries that are landlocked are not docked points for lacking a navy, though they are penalized for not having a merchant marine force.

Countries with navies are penalized if there is a lack of diversity in their naval assets.

NATO countries get a slight bonus because the alliance would theoretically share resources, but in general, a country's current political and military leadership was not considered.

"Balance is the key — a large, strong fighting force across land, sea and air backed by a resilient economy and defensible territory along with an efficient infrastructure — such qualities are those used to round out a particular nation's total fighting strength on paper," the ranking states.

Below, you can see the 25 most powerful militaries in the world:

While I agree with the point you are making about Egypt and Israel, I don't think the relative positions of India and France, and Thailand and Iran are wrong.

.
Vietnam has more power than North Korea with hydrogen warhead ?!

This is 2017's list. Global Firepower makes pretty good lists which not only include the military equipment but also a country's ability to fund and keep a war going for a long time.

I'll give you an example.

In this list the top three countries in the middle East are:
1) Turkey
2) Egypt
3) Israel

Let's start with Israel. Israel has a lot of Tanks and a lot of Fighter jets (I think I'll check again later) however it lacks a massive navy and has no where near the amount of MLRS and SPGs when compared to the other two countries. There's a few other things that they lacked last time I checked. To make matters worse for them they also have a very small population and relatively small economy when compared to Turkey. This means that they will suffer in a war of attrition. There's no doubt that they are very good at warfare, however they would prefer to end things quickly.. This is why they're so dangerous in short bursts of warfare - they have no other choice.

Egypt on the other hand is the opposite of Israel. They have considerably more assets in almost every field. More aircraft, more ships, more troops and more ground vehicles. That being said the quality is obviously worse than what Israel has got. They also have 2 LHDs for some reason. They have the biggest population of the three countries however their economy is crap for their size. There's no doubt that they have very large military which would have enough assets to hold of Israel, however their economy and fairly arid landscape means that they themselves wouldn't prefer a war of attrition (unless the Nile provides them with the cababilty to be fully self reliant in terms of agriculture).

Then there's Turkey. In terms of assets the Turkish military is huge in almost aspect. Army, Navy and Air force are all huge, although Egypt does have more equipment in all three sectors. That being said most of Turkey's equipment is indeed better. What Turkey lacks right now is an Aircraft carrier. One aircraft carrier will put Turkey number 5-6 on the Global Firepower list, as they are seen as massive multipliers when it comes to force projection. The reason why Turkey edges out Egypt is because it has the economy to sustain a massive army with ease. It can double its equipment within a number of years. It has the capability to produce almost all of it's defence needs.

So to some it up Turkey combines the tech, training and funding of the Israeli military with the massive population and equipment amount of Egypt. That's why Turkey is number 8 while Egypt is a respectable number 10. Israel, although potent probably wouldn't want to mess with Egypt in this day and age, which is why it's 15th on the list.

.
I think it's only comparing conventional military strength. If this was about nukes Pakistan would be above Turkey.
No it doesnt, even M48 MBT are counted for,it says nothing about the generations or quality of the equipment, this list cant be taken serious.

if M48 were counted Turkey would have some 4500+ tanks.

We have a huge M48 fleet around 3.000.

Also F4s and some old F16s don't seem to be counted because we don't have 207 fighters.

in reality we have over 230 F16s alone.
