The “Heart of Asia” initiative is a strong testament to the will and dedication of the Afghan and Pakistani nations towards bringing stability and prosperity in the region. It is heartening to see representative from over two dozen nations either supporting or participating in this conference, including the U.S., China, and India.
In addition, Afghanistan, the European Union and the U.S. concluded a meeting today, December 9th, 2015, as part of a series of bi-lateral and tri-lateral meetings taking place in Islamabad during this conference. Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid led the delegations. At the end of this tri-lateral meeting U.S. and Afghanistan welcomed the decision taken by the European Union to host the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan on October 4-5, 2016.
U.S. Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan applauded the Heart of Asia conference and stated that is will be “an excellent opportunity for Afghanistan and an example of efforts to deepen regional integration to lead to greater peace, security and economic growth in the area.”
Regional powers, and people from across the world, acknowledge the fact that Afghanistan’s stability and prosperity is tied to peace and economic growth of all its neighbors. This is why efforts are being made by the leaderships of these countries to come together and discuss issues of mutual concern, and aim at resolving prior obstacles which had strained communications.
