Other than us indian being not brave, I agree to all the points. Maybe the writer has his tail behind his legs, not 1.4 billion other Indians.
@XiNiX

This is a propaganda piece brother. Easy to see through it. Cowboys like the author want India to be full of bombast responding to every terrorist attack with a revenge operation. But the fact of the matter is that the revenge methodology adopted by Israel does not suit India. We are large and are confident of ourselves. We have a lot to achieve and a lot to loose. We are going nowhere. Israel has to survive multiple enemies, so its policy is perfectly sensible when seen from a survival instinct pov. It takes more composure and bravery for a soldier to stand down and stay alert while knowing the enemy is scheming; all because his country needs him to maintain a defensive posture.

Also there is too much of a campaign these days to picture Israel as the chummy of India with same ideology and yada yada yada. If you see through the BS, it is easy to recognise that while Israel is a very good partner for India, it is hardly any close to the ideology of India. Unless you want to consider Hindutva as India's ideology(Essentially on the lines that India is for Hindus and Israel should be for jews for historical reasons).

The ideology of the state of Israel is closest to the ideology of Pakistan. Probably these are the only two countries which insist that they have an ideology behind their creation. Which is that they are a nation of jews/muslims, they are incompatible with Arabs/Hindus and hence they need a separate state with borders, land etc.

There is no greater country than Israel, hands down, when it comes to fighting it out for their survival. But there is also no country that heaped more misery on people they are supposed to reconcile with. No greater country that successfully violated international law so blatantly. No country that needs such a racist story to survive. Not all their fault though. Living in such a place with luxuries like US support has consequences.

On the other hand, if the support of Arabs to Palestine based on pan-Arab sentiments was legitimate(because the Zionists kicked out Palestinians precisely because they were Arabs) and a dismal failure because of their infighting(much like the infighting among Indian kingdoms/satraps when the British entered); The later support from Ummah is a devastating blow to the cause of Palestinians. Who needs enemies when the Ummah is their friend? When the Ummah calls support(even if it is unsolicited) for you, the rest of the world usually stops thinking about your miseries and starts wondering that there is something deeply wrong with you because the most racist organization has your back. This is exactly the problem Palestine is facing. All their liberal, secular and left freedom fighters died, half from Western attacks and the rest from Ummah sponsored puritan thugs. Now the world correctly sees the Palestinians as anti-Semitic extremist muslims hell-bent on wiping out Israel, because of their being in bed with the Ummah. It does not matter that a few pragmatic liberal leaders are still in Fatah's top ranks.

And hence many of the Indians that detest Palestinians tragically do so because they see hypocrites like Pakistan supporting Palestine blindly. Not because they understand the history of the region or international law with regards to Israel correctly.

My point is If an Indian stands with Israel because Israel has helped India so much, it makes perfect sense. But calling Israel India's ideological twin is fresh hot BS. Also calling support for Israel based on European anti-Semitism(past or current) is an old strawman argument. So this Indian whoever it is 'feeling' too much too late and too little for real reasons.

India and Israel are not brothers in arms. Israel has a regular 4 year event like the Olympics where they go and bomb the hell out of unarmed Gazans/Lebanese or whoever. This despite the Gazan blockade. India has never attacked another country without proportion or provocation.

I also used to be a die-hard and rather blind fan of such co-operation between India and Israel, until I actually interacted with a lot of Israelis in work and outside. Make no mistake, even today I sympathise with the Israeli people when it comes to terrorism and admire the way they have been brutally efficient in putting the terrorism down and still progress at the same time be one of the topmost destinations for technology companies.

There is certainly a lot for us Indians to learn from them -- be it counter-terrorism, defence, medicine, agriculture etc. But I think we, Indians have to be careful not to get carried away with these emotions by blindly supporting a country like this -- even if comes at the expense of our own interests. Also, having interacted with the Israelis both on work and off, there is nothing to suggest that they reciprocate the same kind of sentimentality that some Indians (including myself) blindly share with them.

In fact, there have been numerous examples of how they treat Indians and India with contempt -- as tourists. Talking of Kargil war, there were reports of how they charged exorbitant amount of money for the goods that we needed desperately. There was also a report of how Israelis sold India a 2 years old satellite imagery of the occupied hills during the Kargil conflict -- when we asked them for real time satellite imagery.

The Israelis are just like any other modern state, they will put the interests of their country first before anybody else. If it makes sense for them to sell and share defence products or give away Indian positions to Pakistan or China tomorrow, they will do so in a heartbeat. And I don't blame them for that. It would be naive for us to think that Israelis will put their own interests at risk just for supporting India. The world doesn't work like that.

All I am saying that we should be rational and realistic in our expectations and approach and treat Israeli relationships on their merits. Let us put India first. The last thing we want to get into, is another master slave relationship -- the same crime that we often accuse Pakistanis of.

.
Indians were at the forefront of supporting Israel even more than the Americans during the Gaza conflict atleast on the social media...these mostly rightwing hinduvta islamophobes were just awed by the Israeli war machine blowing up children in Gaza with impunity and probably had daydreams if India could do the same to Pakistan
that not true Indians Do NOT support Israel because of hatred for Muslims , in fact India had better relations compared to Pakistan with many Muslim countries like Egypt ,Iraq ,Afghanistan ,PLO chairman Yasser Arafat used to call Indira Gandhi his sister , the reason for India supporting Israel is a Nationalistic one & not a Religious one, the biggest reason is when indian pm Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Lahore to make peace with Pakistan & try to resolve disputes with it like Kashmir ( that was the only time India was serious about resolving the Kashmir dispute) , But Pakistan instead of availing that opportunity to settle the Kashmir dispute, Shocked the world by sabotaging the Lahore peace process & attacking India in Kargil ! , India & Indians felt thoroughly betrayed by that , Pakistan had violated the gentlemen's agreement of vacating peaks along with India , by infiltrating into high peaks & passes there ,in retaliation India tried to evacuate the peaks & faced a lot of casualties as a result of that , & that is when Israel stepped in Israel helped India evacuate those peaks swiftly , Israel also helped India destroy Pakistani ammunition storages near that area by providing India with state of the Art Drones , image sensors etcs
so in short to summarise Indo-Israeli relations, we have to go back to 1999 , when India came to Pakistan for peace, but it was Israel which walked away with a solid friendship & gratitude thanks to the blunders Pakistan made by attacking Kargil
Indians being the rigid they are, don't make friends, but when they do my friend, they do it with all they have got
but the saddest part of this is that , this peace & friendship was meant for Pakistan ,but the tragedy of it was Israel walking away with it, all of it !

Yeah right. Anti-Semiticism exists in the world specifically because Jews didn't create a state for themselves. For most of past history it's been possible for you to (and Christians too BTW) to call them blood-sucking usurers. It has nothing to do with conditions behind the creation of the Israeli sate.
To be fair to mri, anti-semitism in Arab world specifically is noted prominently only after Balfour declaration(seen by how jews were already living among majority Arab muslims there). Anti-Semitism in Islamic world is a different game though.

The Ummah fashionistas brought it along and they are doing such a great job at it that they surpassed their target of WWII Germany standards.

Most anti-semitic stuff is supposedly based on stupid interpretations and interpolations of New testament(like Christ chasing away money lenders from the Temple). Which explains why the Jews were better off under people like Saladdin and got persecuted by the crusaders.

Dear Friends in Israel,

I wouldn’t write to you today, if I didn’t feel compelled to do so. But first, I have a confession to make; I didn’t always stand up for you – when at times I should have. Growing up in India in the 90s, like most in my generation I did share sympathies for you, but never gave it much of a thought.

Things changed during my college years and subsequent years of employment in International organizations. I conveniently went along with the dominant narrative of the ‘Arab–Israeli conflict’.

It was in the winter of 2012 that I was – for the first time – forced to reconsider my position after witnessing an anti-Semitic tirade (in Germany of all the places) that began ‘harmlessly’ with a condemnation of Israel’s ‘disproportionate use of force’. The incident made me realize that the nature of the debate on Israel has very little to do with the ground realty in the Middle East. On other occasions my polite attempts to bring facts to the discussions made things only worse. Since then I have witnessed more blatant anti-Semitism in elite circles in Europe than I have seen in immigrant suburbs of Paris or Berlin.

After seeing the futility of debates, I opted to just write about it occasionally. I do get my share of ‘hate mails’ and I take them as part of the deal. Like most people expressing their solidarity with Israel on the web, I too have been flooded with graphic images and verbal abuse in recent days. I have been repeatedly asked the same question: Why does an Indian support Israel (I am leaving out the customary expletives)?

I have chosen not to respond to these messages. Instead I have decided to share my reasons with you.

Firstly, as an Indian I feel deep gratitude based on History. You came to our aid militarily many times; like in the 14-day India-Pakistan war in 1971 and then again in the Kargil War of 1999. Your help came despite India’s consistent ‘unfavorable’ stand in UN and other international fora. On the other hand it took India 44 years to recognize Israel.

However, since 1992 our bilateral relations have flourished. Today Israel is India’s biggest partner in defense trade after Russia. India-Israel overall bilateral trade has grown from the base figure of $200 million to over $6 billion.

But that’s not the whole story. Israeli agriculture technology is helping farmers in rural India to improve their harvest and dairy output. Israeli water and irrigation technology is enabling farmers to get better yields with limited water resources and providing Indian cities with clean drinking water. Israel is partnering with India in an ambitious plan to clean major rivers that serve as life-line to Indian metropolitans. Recently Israel has even initiated a program to enable Indian women entrepreneurs to acquire right skill-sets and exposure to break new grounds in Corporate India.

My real admiration – like that of many other Indians – is not merely based on what you do, but based on who you are.

Your scientific temper, your zeal for learning, and your quest for innovation are some of the values that Indians in my generation would like to emulate.
After surviving the most vicious genocide in human history, you opted to create a nation based on democratic values, freedom, equality for people of all faiths and ethnicities. Today, over a million Arabs enjoy equal citizenship rights in Israel and religious freedom never seen before in Middle East. Arab Israelis are active in all fields of society and hold high places in academics, civil & military administration, politics, and cultural life of Israel.

Though you are not infallible, you are open to self-criticism as a society – a rare commodity in the region. Despite being a tiny country in size, you have successfully absorbed waves of immigration and continue to evolve as a society.

You received Jews of Indian origin with open arms. Today they form an 80,000 strong community. They have excelled in all walks of life, served gallantly in times of war, and brought glory to your country in sports. Those who try to raise the charge of Apartheid against you, knowingly ignore the plight of tens of thousands of Indian workers in Arab Gulf States working in sub-human conditions.

Since you proclaimed statehood, you have pleaded for peace, but have been prepared to defend yourself. This perhaps is also your biggest ‘crime’. In the eyes of your detractors, you have stopped playing the part that was scripted for you. Those in your neighborhood who are trying to ‘wipe you off the map’ or ‘push you in to the sea’ are not in much different from those Intellectual elite who want you to lower your defenses or ‘give up your (Jewish) character’ – and disappear.

No society before you has acted so humanly in the face of war, terror and constant aggression – not judging only by the way you treat your own, but by way you treat those who are hell bent on destroying you. You set up field hospitals to treat wounded Syrians; you send your technicians in harm’s way to restore power lines to Gaza; you go out of the way alerting civilians of imminent strikes – even when it means letting the miscreants to flee as well.

Like many of you Israelis, I too firmly believe that the day will come when the hostility against Israel would cease. Arab nations would one day come to realize that they have been the biggest sufferers in their campaign of hatred against Israel, and would instead focus on building their societies and tackling real issues.

Until that day – like millions of Indians today – I will stand with you.

Indians and Israelis have many common platforms:

1) Indians are pro development, peace loving, pro democracy and intellectual people just like israelis and indians have high praise for Israel for defending itself from the clutches of surrounding muslim nations in a brave and aggressive manner. India is not able to do that with pakistan , bangladesh, afghanistan, china. Indians crave for that aggression and bravery so they love and highly appreciate Israel.

2) In any international dispute the indians have a 100 percent inclination in favour of israel because indians better understand the mentality of muslim nations. although indian government do not openly favour israel due to some international equations and due to large population of muslims here in india.

3) It is for sure that india and muslim nations are not natural allies due to vast differences in culture, society, government, way of thinking etc. Indians find Israel close to their heart because everything including religion has very high degree of similarities.

4) Fourth and most important point ,may be objectionable to few people: Indians are although peace loving but not brave to defend themselves and always searches for a superhero to save them and they find that superhero in Israel. I also believe that israel is really a superhero. we should learn from them. Israel has helped india in difficult times of kargil, terrorist attacks. we should keep in mind that israelis also love indians.

love to israel

A study undertaken on behalf of Israel's foreign ministry by an international market research company found that India is the most pro-Israel country in the world, beating out the United States by two percentage points.
The study, undertaken as part of the "Branding Israel" project, looked at what it calls the world's 13 most important countries and included 5,215 interviewees. Asked a series of questions, participants graded their sympathy for Israel on a 1-to-10 scale. Some results, given in terms of percentage expressing sympathy to the Jewish State:

58% India
56% United States
52% Russia
52% Mexico
50% China
34% Great Britain
27% France
23% Spain

Comment: The Indian statistic is not the only striking one - note the continent of the countries clustered at the bottom and how much lower their numbers than those of Russia and China. Just as the U.S government should rethink its military alliances, so might Israelis take a fresh look at the globe. (April 3, 2009)

I'm not surprised that I get to read such articles when the BJP govt is in power.BJP was in favour of forming Israel,a country Formed on the basis of religion ONLY.
Israel has helped India in some crucial wars. And India is one of the most pro-Israel country in the world ergo India 's stance in UN doesn't matter.

I guess the Indians here who never travelled outside India are yet to realize how Israelis (20% of the population being Arab and 60% of the Jewish Israelis being Jewish Arabs or partial Jewish Arabs) treat and look at Indians in general and other South Asians for that matter.

Lastly how can Arabs be anti-Semites when we are Semites ourselves? More Semitic than the Jews and more native to the ancient ME than them.

It's like calling Danes anti-Germanic if they had a conflict with their Swedish neighbors and cousins who are also Germanic. Makes no sense. But that's Zionism propaganda for you. I am still shocked that they are yet to claim ownership of the word "racism".

Some South Asians should get some self-respect and stop licking the boots of foreigners. Grow a spine, man. I have noticed this phenomenon especially among some Indian users whenever Israel and Russia are discussed. The most tragic thing is that a ordinary Russian looks down on an ordinary Indian too due to the high number of racists and nationalists in Russia. Just look how they treat their Turkic and Caucasian minorities for instance!

Being an ally is all fine and good but defending allies so furiously is very strange from an Arab/ME perspective at least.
