LONDON: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be visiting Islamabad and Lahore as well as the northern areas during their upcoming visit to Pakistan, a statement released by their communication secretary said on Friday. “This is the most complex tour undertaken by the Duke and Duchess to date, given the logistical and security considerations,” it said.

“From the modern leafy capital Islamabad, to the vibrant city of Lahore, the mountainous countryside in the north, and the rugged border regions to the west, the visit will span over 1,000km, and will take in Pakistan’s rich culture, its diverse communities, and its beautiful landscapes,” the statement released by the Kensington Palace said.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will be visiting Pakistan from Oct 14 to 18.

The official statement also said that throughout the tour the couple would visit programmes which empower young people and see how communities in Pakistan are responding and adapting to the effects of climate change.

“This is a key area of interest for Their Royal Highnesses; they are keen to learn more about the climate change issues affecting Pakistan and our world, and the positive work being undertaken to combat these challenges,” the secretary said.

Additionally, the couple will spend time understanding the security picture in Pakistan.

“They will learn more about the challenges and opportunities, both of the past and today. The UK has been a key partner for Pakistan, and the Duke and Duchess will meet UK and Pakistan military personnel who are sharing expertise to improve security.”

The couple is expected to meet “children and young people, leaders from government, business and the charity sector, inspiring conservationists, and well-known cultural figures and sporting stars”.

It will be the first royal visit to Pakistan in 13 years. The last one was by Charles, the Prince of Wales, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, who spent five days in Pakistan in 2006, visiting areas devastated by the 2005 earthquake.

Most complex..how? because it reminds them of the ugly role played by their elders?

Stop being so negative. Your elders also played role in that.
our elders were being ruled by Sikh Raj before the British came. At least we could eat meat under the British.

And the Royal tour will do wonders for tourism sector in Pakistan. The triangle, Peshawar-Islamabad-Lahore and Northern Pakistan will recieve huge publicity and send out message that Pakistan is safe for tourists.

Our elders enjoying Khalsa Raj before 1849 British arrival.

Cow slaughter was banned in Khalsa Raj of Ranjit Singh's kingdom too. ... During the Sikh reign, cow slaughter was a capital offence, for which perpetrators were even executed. It may be noted that Maharaja Ranjit Singh had abolished capital punishment for all crimes in the Sikh kingdom, save for cow slaughter.

I am of the view that Pakistan is in existence due to "British favor" to the indigenous muslims in Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, Balochistan. If they "did not" want to to let a new country "with name of Pakistan" form in the north west of south asia, no one could have forced them to do so and we would have remained just another part of that sh1tland called India even today.

Lets look at the map how security have improved. From Indian funded website but accurate as their source is local news papers. This 2019 map is using 2018 data and 2018 one is using 2017 data. And in 2019 so far number of terror related deaths is less then half compared to 2018.

I would not go so far as say it was a favour. They were driven by their own imperatives. The British "made India" in 1849. And the British had every right to "unmake India" in 1947. These are facts we must note -

  • prior to British invasion of the Sikh empire our elders were second class subjects of a Sikh maharajah. Meat was banned at point of death. Gurdwaras were built by knocking down mosques. Women were taken by force in particular from the frontier region. Even today you will see Sikhs with a 'frontier look'. The British invaded and defeated the Sikh army at Battle of Gujrat in 1949 and thereby laid the foundation of future Pakistan 98 years later. We all became subjects of the British Raj and Sikh, Hindu or Muslim became equal.

Thats a totally wrong. India was a boiling pot, it would have exploded one way or the other. It could have resulted in 2 to 3 large muslim countries but instead the brits 'managed' it. It was a loss for muslims.
