About moi - 3rd generation British Pakistani (Punjabi origin from Rawalpindi/Islamabad). Married and 2 kids -
Professional - working in the Banking sector. Enough about me.
I just would like to touch on the topic of British Pakistanis, specifically the upcoming generation. With so much bad publicity going around in the media recently (grooming gangs/ drug dealing/...) - I am feeling a bit anxious for my kids to grow up and live here. From my experience, best defence is off course education, but despite this there is still the lingering anxiety. My kids are (luckily) not old enough to understand the details of all these crimes and deep down, I hope it will get better though that is not guaranteed.
As a British Pakistani, I always feel a sense of shame when reading about these crimes. When my parents came to the UK - Asians were known for hard-work and sacrifice. Why hasn’t this trickled through to the next generations? What do you guys think? How are you tackling this head on? I firmly believe that these issues need to be discussed by acknowledging there is an issue in some quarters of our society - ONLY then can we move on.
