#BREAKING: US Navy destroyer came under attempted missile attack in intl waters off Yemen, ship not hit - US military tells @Reuters

.
Its being reported the USS Mason came under attack. 2 missiles were detected over a 60 minute period and hit the water before the ship.

I'm wondering what countermeasures were taken by the Mason.

A U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer was targeted on Sunday in a failed missile attack from territory in Yemen controlled by Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, a U.S. military spokesman told Reuters, saying the two missiles failed to hit the ship.

"USS Mason detected two inbound missiles over a 60-minute period while in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. Both missiles impacted the water before reaching the ship," Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said.

"There were no injuries to our sailors and no damage to the ship," he said.

CNN reporting that the Mason deployed "onboard defensive measures."

Electronic attack?

What the he'll is 60 minutes of flight? And finally hit water before the ship? Sounds like Iran's missiles used by yemenis. If it was with in the range ship could had a hit? What kind of missile is it to fly by 60 mins and deducted by vessel but not intercepted?

:) It meant, 2 missiles in a period of 60 minutes mate

. .
And no response from the ship. What the hell no SAM system on the Destroyer. US mighty high command should know of this.

.
Can you give me some more info on this Pls if possible. We could try to understand how US vessels can fair up enemy missiles
The mention that the missiles fell in water before the ship probably point to Nulka's doing. Read the above post by C130.
It wasn't about ship being out of range for these

.
We know that Saudis are having trouble dealing with the Yemen situation. Saudis must be pressing the US for help.

A missile attack with no US casualties or even damage to the destroyer! Another 'Gulf of Tonkin' incident to justify US naval bombardment to help the Saudi? I have serious doubts about this.

I guess it's near by Yemenis Coast. And Americans must be having Sam systems atleast 80 km range.

Destroyer USS Mason Unsuccessfully Attacked From Yemen

The guided-missile destroyer USS Mason (DDG-87) was unsuccessfully attacked with two missiles fired from Yemen on Sunday, Pentagon officials told reporters early Monday morning.

Mason was near the strait of Bab el-Mandeb in international waters when two missiles were fired from shore around 7 P.M. local time on Sunday, Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said to reporters.

“USS Mason detected two inbound missiles over a 60-minute period while in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. Both missiles impacted the water before reaching the ship,” Davis said, reported Reuters.
“There were no injuries to our sailors and no damage to the ship.”

The newswire quoted an unnamed defense official saying the first missile launched at Mason triggered unspecified countermeasures on the destroyer. The ship did not return fire.

The destroyer was operating with two other U.S. ships – USS Nitze (DDG-94) and USS Ponce (AFSB(I)-15) — that were tasked to the region following the attack on a UAE logistics vessel HSV Swift on Oct. 1.

Iran-backed Houthi forces claimed responsibility for the attack and warned other members of the Saudi-led coalition to stay away from Yemeni waters.

While the specific weapons used on Swift and Mason are unclear, at least one expert told USNI News last week that the strike on Swift appeared to have been Chinese-built C-802 anti-ship missile (NATO reporting name CSS-N-8 Saccade). The missile was briefly sold to Tehran by Beijing and it was reversed engineered by Iranian engineers and reproduced as the Noor missile.

The attack on Mason comes a day after a Saudi-led airstrike killed 140 and wounded more than 500 during a funeral in the Yemeni capital Sana’a. The Saudi-led bombing has prompted a review of U.S. support of the conflict fought between the collation and the Houthis since last year, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

In addition to the attack on Mason, Houthi forces also launched two unsuccessful ballistic missile strikes against Saudi-led collation targets, according to a report in The Associated Press.

Yemen needs a massive dose of democracy it seems

nah.. we shouldn't do anything heavy handed. we should just keep knocking their missiles into the ocean.

since they have engaged our vessels that means we can use our missiles now instead of soft kill measures.

the kill chain
AEGIS----->SM-2------>ESSM------->RIM-116----->CIWS----->soft kill countermeasures

I wonder if it was Iranian Noor missiles that were fired at the ship. Regardless, I'm happy to see the defense of the ship was successful. This was a very dangerous incident.
