Soldier killed in Pak firing along LoC in north Kashmir
A soldier was killed in ceasefire violation in north Kashmir’s Nowgam sector in Kupwara district on Tuesday.
Defence sources said a soldier was killed when Pakistani troops fired few sniper shots near the Line of Control in the sector.
“A soldier was critically wounded by the Pakistani sniper fire and he succumbed to his injuries later,” sources said.
The identity of the slain soldier could not be established immediately.
Meanwhile, two unidentified militant were killed in a gunfight as Army foiled infiltration bid in Gurez sector of Bandipore district.
A group of militants was intercepted by soldiers close to the Line of Control in Gurez sector, some 180 km from here, during the intervening night of Monday.
"As militants were challenged, they opened fire triggering a gunfight. During the search operation body of two militants have been recovered so far and three weapons were also recovered,” defence sources said, adding that the combing operation is still underway.
They said Army suspected that more militants may have been killed during the gunfight.
This year over 100 militants have been killed by the forces in hinterland and along the LoC, which is highest in this period in last 10 years.
