In a positive development for the Pakistani cellular subscribers, the industry players are reported to be working on national roaming services.

In case if you are wondering, when national roaming is operational and in place, users of one network (e.g. Jazz) will be able to avail cellular services of another network (e.g Ufone) in areas where Jazz isn’t available but Ufone is.
The collaboration is aimed at making connectivity less hassle-free and more useful for Pakistani mobile phone users who face frequent connectivity issues, especially while on the move.
According to well-placed sources, the regulator, PTA, is taking the lead on the national roaming initiative, helping the industry players agree on terms and conditions.
The initiative may be in its final stages and as per our sources, things are already settled between operators who are now working on the nitty-gritty of the mechanism.
National roaming will be a massive development for Pakistan as being forced to switch networks while moving between certain areas and cities continues to be a big hassle for users.

The trouble only aggravates when users have a single-SIM phone and have to manually change the SIM cards every now and then to get signals or data connectivity.
This is especially cumbersome in far-flung areas or in smaller cities of the country.
Through national roaming, users will be rid of this hassle as their phones will automatically switch to the available network regardless of what network they’re on.
Currently, only Ufone and SCO have a Bilateral Roaming Service Agreement that offers roaming voice & SMS services in AJ&K and GB to Ufone subscribers.
National roaming services might see their pilot launch in Baluchistan sometime soon where connectivity and network availability issues are most severe.
After that, national roaming will follow in other remote and underserved areas of the country where network expansion is either challenging or makes little business case for multiple operators.

More details on the initiative will be shared by ProPakistani as and when they’re received.

Good move, we got rid of "roaming" charges within the country 5 - 6 years ago here in India.

. . .
Surprised to hear this problem still exists in Pakistan. I think it’s the issue in some far areas of Balochistan or Northern areas but in rest of the country we have very wide coverage of most networks so roaming charges didn’t matter

.
I think some people are here confusing it with roaming charges .... which I think were removed in early 2000s .... its about connectivity issue in remote areas country such as northern areas rural Areas of Balochistan formar FATA areas ....

Not all the service providers have their infrastructure in these areas but only BIG 2 so they can benefit as there infrastructure in these areas would be utilized more for the customers of other operators

.
I see people are talking about 5G... so I thought I post a video which have some "alternate views on 5G" ...

.
I had roaming since 2005

This is sad , folks
Don't post stuff like this , can't imagining changing SIM , infact I throw the phone away then to ever had to change SIM

Can't imagine Military with cell phone running around city to city changing sim cards as well

This is a big surprise. Why did Pakistan not choose to get rid of roaming sooner?!

The roaming charges were removed when the billing method switched to CPP (calling party pays). I guess the younger generation does not know that in the beginning both caller and receiver of a phone call had to pay PKR 32 per minute.

I think you are confusing it with roaming charges. Its not that.

Basically if you have operator-1 SIM card and you are moving through lets say remote Northern areas where only operator-2 has presence then your operator-1 SIM car will automatically latch on to operator-2 signals in the area and provide you service. Your charging/billing will be same as you would normally pay. Basically you don't have to buy a new SIM from operator-2 in the areas where your original operator-1 SIM doesn't work.

Pakistan has one of the lowest call/data rates in the world. Roaming charges were abolished in early 2000's.

In India if you pay 199 Indian rupees ,you get 1gb high speed 4g data daily and once you exhaust the high speed data for the day then you get unlimited reduced speed data with free unlimited calls any where in India and any network, 100 sms daily and no roming charges with free caller tunes ,free music free anti virus subscription and if it's jio connection you get jio TV too.

I asked a PTCL senior exec, when is 5G coming? and he replied "whats the difference, why bother" :suicide:

ask someone not sitting on a "kursi" which he achieved through "tagri sifarish" hence "na-ahal" sitting in govt depts.
