and where will they get the gas to operate this?
they wil simply shut down another IPP to divert the gas to this project.

What will be the use of Nandi Pur's production then? I think the planners would have not been dumb enough to left the input availability to if's and butt's

IPPs will eventually be shut down because they run on furnace oil and they are not willing to convert to coal fired. Also, IPP runs on very old and outdated machinary possibly from the late 80s and early 90s. Producing electricity from IPP is very expensive and someone needs to show these thugs a door. But I am sure once more projects are build developed, these IPPs will come back into their senses and will eventually lower their prices and bring in up to date machinery.

Nandipur should be a much more efficient plant. Moreover it is the flagship project of Punjab Government to assert its post-18th Amendment right to implement energy projects. I do not know if any other province has executed an electric generation project of this level. So in this count, no matter what happens, SS will find fuel somehow.

three main points here
1. the project is stupid if you look in short erm perspective but may be useful in long term as gas may be available after import.
2. furnace oil plants are very few , they are there because there is no gas, most plants are dual being able to run on both furnace oil and gas
3. the only valid reason for this project is GENCOs=govt owned (not the IPPs) have poor efficiency when it comes to production, if the gas is diverted from them then the project may be useful, however that usually doesnt happen becuase govt want to run these inefficient plants due to kick backs( the same way it runs steal mills and PIA etc).

generation from GENCOs is surprisingly more expensive then IPPs per WAPDA source due to very poor efficiency.
infact it was reported that if govt divert gas from GENCOs to IPPs it can save billion in revenue and simultaneously can increase production with same amount of gas

most IPPs are pleading NEPRA to give them tarrif for coal so they can start work, few have started work without waiting for NEPRA.
problem is NEPRA is too slow

Switch to coal from oil taking too long: IPPs – The Express Tribune
"
K-Electric is the only company in the advanced stage of undertaking the coal conversion projects, according to the Marine Group of Companies, which is building a dirty terminal at Port Qasim with an annual capacity to handle 15 million tons of coal, cement and clinker.

The two companies have already signed an agreement to handle 5 million tons of coal.

Industry officials say one reason for delay in finalising the policy could be fear of being persecuted by the courts. “Bureaucrats don’t want to be seen as giving undue benefit to private enterprise. Perhaps they are being too cautious.”

Nepra’s Naeem did not respond to our phone calls."

alot can be improved by doing two things
1. improving power efficiency
2.increasing power bill collection

so far govt performance has not been good in these sector.
however its good to see focus on coal projects but govt could have do
ne better

in the end it will be helpful for punjab and ofcourse they will get gas for it but will be diverted from an other IPP..:D

.
another reason to complete the project was that most work was already done on it.

.
I don't know why they build this. Cost is $600 million and on top it runs with gas. Though per unit cost is Rs 8. It was started in 2008. That time around importing gas from Iran was still planned.

.
So a future advertisement of the accomplishments of the government will mention this “breakthrough”

.
Nandipur, such kind of city name still exists in Pakistan. :woot::woot:

. . . .
The machinery for the said plant was held in port and was not cleared during PPP tenure ... Good to see it working at last :) :yahoo:
