Dr Shakil Afridi’s lawyer Samiullah Afridi was shot dead near Peshawar on Tuesday.

Police officials confirmed that Samiullah was shot dead at on Warsak Road. The official added unidentified assailants fired at Samiullah’s car injuring him. The lawyer later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Samiullah had fled to Dubai in December 2013 after receiving threats from militants but was visiting the country.

Shakeel Afridi was jailed for 33 years in May 2012 after he was convicted of ties to militants, though some US lawmakers said the case was revenge for Afridi helping in the search for the al Qaeda chief.

Afridi was convicted under Pakistan’s tribal justice system and last year a tribunal cut 10 years off his sentence.

But his efforts to clear his name on appeal have been hit by long delays and adjournments and suffered another blow earlier this month as the tribunal hearing his appeal was dissolved.

Samiullah was on the panel of lawyers who defended Dr Shakil Afridi in his cases before the political administration of Khyber Agency and FCR Tribunal.

who is going to get the blame/ suffer? state of Pakistan

did TTP do it? maybe it did or not
will it claim responsibility?

of course not because not claiming responsibility puts the blame on ISI and Pakistan army which is beneficial to TTP and its financiers

because it will make sense to get the full criticism international media glare and condemnation and witch hunting like in the gold old days few years back. what is better than to kill a lawyer instead of Dr Afridi himself? yea makes perfect sense to shoot its own foot because Indian and Western media will say so

lets look at it , charge is that Dr afridi helped CIA nab osama , and he was a global terrorist responsible for killing god knows how many people and who knows probably even Dr afridi never knew it was an operation to get osama , maybe he was just told to get DNA samples from the specified location . He is just a small time doctor and was used by the mighty and powerful , how can you call it as a treason. It was not like he leaked sensitive information to some enemy state knowingly or let some enemy spy take shelter at his home , maybe he even dint knew what he was being part of.

Its really sad what he is made to go through. It exposes pakistans real intentions.

Sad really... even the judge who sentenced Mumtaz Qadri had to flee the country I believe! You can not expect fair judicial process if the defendants are not allowed to be defended by a competent lawyer!

What can I say about Shakeel Afrid? when I myself don't believe what has been or (is being) said in media about OBL op, or what US government says about it.

I once read an article by US veteran about OBL and this whole Abbottabad drama and it made more sense to me, so for me cannot comment much on someone who is charged for something, that I believe is highly controversial.

The lawyer was an Afridi tribesman himself. Most tribesmen have decades old animosities with rival clans. He could have died of several reasons totally unrelated to his business with Shakeel Afridi. Before an investigation is carried out and reason is found, it will be unfair to relate his death with Shakeel's case, which he abandoned too some time ago.

Personal scores can be settled, and are being settled in the pretext of TTP.

TTP claims sometimes to spread terror, and sometimes to win public sympathy (such as in this case). Claiming responsibility does not mean that TTP is involved or behind each and every killing and/or terror attack for many are carried out by the splinter groups, which act independently, and out of chain of command (if one exists at all).
