9 Taliban insurgent killed in Afghan raids: gov't Date: 4th Aug, 2012

KABUL, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police and army, backed by the NATO-led coalition forces, have killed nine Taliban insurgents over the past 24 hours, the country's Interior Ministry said on Saturday.

"One armed Taliban insurgent was injured and three others detained by the joint forces during the five joint cleanup operation carried out in Kabul, Balkh, Paktika and Pakita provinces over the last 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

They also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without saying if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.

Afghan forces and some 130,000 NATO-led coalition troops have intensified cleanup operations against Taliban and other militant groups throughout the country recently. More than 50 insurgents have been killed, 10 injured and 26 others detained in the country since Wednesday Aug. 1.
However, the Taliban insurgent group, which announced the launching of an annual spring offensive from May 3 against Afghan and NATO forces, has not to make comments yet.

Taliban don't have anything to counter them except IEDs and suicide attacks - seeing their experience of 2 years of practical warfare they are really going all good.

We are so happy to see that Taliban are being eliminated by Afghan national army. Now taliban cannot claim freedom fighters tag as Afghanistan's own people want to get rid of these talibans.

Sher, does any of your recent success have anything to do with Indian training?

I may be jumping the gun, but this slew of kills seems to be temporally connected to your guys coming over and learning how to do things the "local/regional" way.

Its more to do with their knowledge of the terrain and tactics of Taliban. They know how to hunt these people as its their own background. India provides training to officers only. ISAF also do that. So its combined effort's result, but I give ANA's awareness of the battlefield more weight for these success.

The ISAF has been training them for at least 3-4 years now.

The Indians have recently started.

So have the big kills.

May be purely temporal, but I would really like an Afghan perpective to it.

I don't think you seem to be aware of the weapons available with the Taliban. These are:

AK-47
SVD-Dragunov Sniper Rifles
RPG-7
Stinger Rocket Launchers (Rarely used now)
RPK Machine Guns
Chinese-Soviet clone assault rifles
Hand grenades
DShK heavy machine guns
Anti aircraft guns

Most of these AKs and other weapons are locally manufactured on the AfPak border by local homegrown units. Most are clones of old Soviet/Chinese weapons, but pretty much effective!

Where do they get the money for all this? From the rampant Afghan drug trade. By the way, the CIA too is involved in this as the billions of dollars they get are used to fund their black projects and for financing their color revolutions, from the CIS Republics to Egypt, Libya, Syria etc. By the way, the funds obtained from this illegal drug trade by the CIA is beyond U.S. Congressional oversight.

They are exporting these drugs heavily towards the CARS and ultimately Russia. That's why the Russians are pissed.
