Was it land attack or anti ship missiles?

Land attack BrahMos Block III -

BrahMos Block-III missile with steep dive-cum-target discrimination mode suitable for mountain warfare. It is the first BrahMos to feature a new Indian software algorithm and multiple satellite navigation systems for guidance, without the usual homing system. The new navigation system uses an Indian chip called G3OM (GPS, GLONASS, GAGAN on a Module). The system weighs around 17 grams, and gives accuracy below five meters using Indian, US and Russian navigation satellites. The system can be used in tandem with and Inertial Navigation System (INS) to provide high-accuracy targeting without using any seeker.

Then there is no tactical benefit in placing missile battery in Andaman for this variants.

Not of Block-3, they are meant for Eastern Regions, but AShM version would create A2/AD.

I don't know, creating an enforceable 300-500KM exclusion zone around the A&N islands (set to become one of India's most significant and sensitive military outposts) is not too be laughed at.....

+ hadn't there been a similar test conducted a few weeks back that the MoD had subsequently denied?

A few days ago, former Navy chief Admiral (retd) Arun Prakash had said that the Andamans can face a Kargil-like situation.

Coco Island is 18 km from the Northernmost Andaman Group Landfall Island and Narcondum Island.

That's why I specifically said that land attack version is not necessarily required in Andaman. It will lead to enmity with friendly neighbors. Anti ship missile is ok for coastal defense from ship based batteries.

Block III can be used to target naval vessels as well. Last time IA test fired Block III in April - though the press release was withdrawn.

I meant actual testing. It is sending hostile signal to friendly neighbors. If it was tested for anti ship role that's fine.

Sorry but I don't agree with this approach. Andaman should be used for anti ship role using missile batteries.

It will be impossible for any neighbours to tell which version(s) of the Brahmos the ANC has under their control.
