LJ man held, bomb defused
By Faraz Khan
KARACHI: Police arrested a member of the banned religious outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) on Tuesday on suspicion that he was involved in a bank robbery that took place in the last week of April in Gadap Town.
Police also claimed having defused a bomb found following the information provided by three LJ men who were earlier arrested in the bank heist case.
The arrested LJ member Abdul Rasheed, son of Alamgir, was arrested in Lyari on his arrival from Hub. On the other hand, Memon Goth police officials claimed recovering a bomb weighing one kilogramme.
It was later handed over to the bomb disposal squad (BDS). The BDS would submit a report to the police about the bomb today (Wednesday). Memon Goth Station Investigation Officer Baki Rind told Daily Times that the police raided a house in Lashari Goth and found the bomb.
The officer said the bomb contained nuts, bolts, barring and Kalashnikov bullets. During the initial course of interrogation, the arrested LJ men have confessed to having links with the Taliban.
After fighting with the security forces in Helmand, they arrived in the city and resided at the house where the bomb was recovered. They also confessed to having robbed three banks and one petrol pump and killing three people. Their absconding associates have escaped to Balochistan and police party has been sent there to arrest them.
Sources said the arrested men were part of the same chain that was running a bomb factory for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in the Qaimkhani Colony. The Sindh police's Special Investigation Unit (SIU) had seized the factory on March 20.
Congratulations to the brave Jawans of Pakistan for defusing the bombs!
