In Bollywood movies, Hindi songs have always played a critical role. Dance, music and songs are the spicy mix masala that complete a Bollywood movie. Vintage Bollywood cinema contained beautiful poetry and descriptive words in their songs. These old school songs encouraged the audience to get absorbed in the story and helped create emotion, drama and atmosphere. If you play these old tracks you will immediately be spellbound by their classy lyrics.

Sadly, a large proportion of Hindi songs in Bollywood movies of the 2000s have entered a new low. The writers have adopted a bare-all, shock value attitude to their lyrics. It has become common practice to have themes about excessive alcohol drinking, sex, cheating and blatantly exposing every raw human emotion. Hindi songs featuring in current Bollywood movies seem to be imitating trashy, booty shaking songs from Hollywood. One has to ask what is the cause of this anti-clockwise turn in quality song lyrics? Is this what the Bollywood movie fans are demanding? Is this being driven by the Indian millennials? Has the general audience lowered their IQ to footpath standards. Who is to blame for the garbage that is making its way into Bollywood cinema?

Famous Hindi song lyricists such as Anand Bakshi, Hasrat Jaipuri, Javed Akhtar and Gulzar must be cringing each time a new Bollywood song passes their ears. However, it is not too late to bring back the hypnotizing, sophisticated songs back to the Bollywood screen. What we need is a forward-thinking Hindi song writer who is willing to take a risk and create something that has not been done before. They need to take the essence of yesteryear and produce songs that will hold its place in the next century. Whether it is Hollywood or Bollywood, songs that become iconic are the ones that touch the heart from one generation to the next. Tell me honestly, how many Hindi songs from the 2000s will be remembered in the coming years? Let's hope a brave writer gives our ears an opportunity to hear quality Hindi lyrics once again.

The good news is Pakistan is moving on from Bollywood.

Looking back...
Has anyone noticed but some vintage Bollywood songs would have a reference to the Almighty (S.A.W.) in a rather flippant way. But the mood of people was far tolerant in those days. Was Bollywood making fun of our faith? Was there a subtle mockery?

(One of the ten commandments states :
"Thou shalt not take his name in vain." )

Here are some examples :

1. "Allah" is used very freely in this song below. Neither of the characters portrayed are Muslims.

Link:
Pyar se dil bhar de

Here is another one :

2. "Allah" is used very freely and it is not relevant to the script.
Neither of the characters portrayed are Muslims.

Link:
Ye ladka hai Allah

There are many songs like that if you search You Tube. Some of those are too gross to link here:

"Parde mein rahne do. Allah meri tauba"

Then again:
This beautiful hamd by Allama Iqbal though sung very well is entirely out of context with the dance:
Link:

Kabhi Aye Haqeeqat e Muntazir

Here again is the emphasis on the verse:
"Na wo Ghaznavi mein tadap rahi
Na wo kham hai zulf e Ayaz mein"

Out of context was there a mockery of Pakistan?
But Bollywood does this time and time again:
See this vintage. qawwali ( completely out of context) which seems to mock;

Link:,
Aghaz to acha hai..Anjam Khuda jane.

Secular film makers ( a vanished breed) did put in Sufi/ Islamic spirituality into the script, such as this qawwali in the opening scene from Junoon :
Link:

Khusro rain suhag ki

Any way thank goodness Pakistan is beyond this now.,

Bollywood has also thankfully moved on from its cringe qawali and Sufi fetish.

It is wholly representative of a modern India now without the middle eastern broad brush strokes garish against a dharmic tapestry.

We killed the money. And the muscle. Simple.

You are very ill informed of any culture beyond your Parsi theater where a shortage of female actors requires improvisations with male actors.

We are putting our money here.
Entertainment which is watched across Central
Asia, Iran, Indonesia, Arabia with a developing industry that has touched $3 billion. If we hadn't kicked Bollywood into the "dharmic" slum of Dharavi this would not have happened:

You won't understand this:

New movies are made only to make money. It is market driven. Movies or song makers are not making it to contribute to art, culture and literature.

Lost my interest in bollywood. Korean movies are the new shit in Asia. Bollywood is was too cheesy and every ****ing movie is a musical unlike K movies. 2nd to Bollywood however is Cdrama which is almost equally cheesy but without 1 hour of music that I have to put with.

Proper Patola, nakhra e swag,

Suit Patiala, shahi chunni teri black

One needs a upbeat Diljit Dosanjh Baadshah song every now and then to rave out.

If I'm being honest, Bollywood will always appeal more to me than Ertugrul. I don't do ghazi mania AT ALL.

Though if it comes to Turkish shows, count me a fan. I do love me a little bit of Attiye with English subtitles, and of course the beauty that is Beren Saat.

As for those references to our religion (not just in Bollywood but Hollywood and international media), I don't take offence and go into a frenzy. Why sit on a trigger all the time ready to explode at the slightest grievance to your beliefs or culture? Muslims need to unclench if they want to survive globally. Or keep restricted to their countries.

Old Bollywood will always be appealing. But the generation of young Pakistanis who are growing up on Ehde- Wafa now will never know how delightful Johnny Walker was ( his songs laced with a Marxist flavor). Even though the catchy tune is borrowed from the American country folk song Clementine this is one of his timeless best

Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan

This era of Bollywood was much before my "time on earth" and I only happened to stumble upon it while doing some research. It was a brief delightful snap shot. Gone forever.
If you watch Padmavat you will know that Amir Khan's days in Bollywood are numberedz
There is no ghazi mania. Ertughrul is meant primarily as entertainment for the Turks and Turkic peoples with a somewhat vague historical backdrop. The general events are historically accurate and relevant. The individual incidents are fiction. A close parallel would be Ivanhoe by Walter Scott made in 1960s.
The expert photography, production and costumes make very compelling watching.,

Of course. The secular Turkish Drizzs are my favorite also

Agree 100% and thumbs up on that Muslims need to get off their hair triggers and not be as stupid as the ones provoking. I would willingly give my lighter to a person setting the "Book" aflame and watch his frustration as I show him a digital edition on my I-Phone with the billionth download.
But you missed my point.
1. Why would Bollywood keep referencing a "hated faith" without context? Even recently they pumped "Kun Faya Kun" into some movie ( don't remember which)

2. How come no Mullah goes hyper over these mass entertainment Bollywood songs, but will have their knives out for Salman Rushdie when only the WOGs read his books?
Never heard Khadim Rizvi ( God rest his soul) say a word about this.
Curious what your take is on this?

Good old Indian obsession. They don't admit it but they are obsessed with the Muslim/Islam bogeyman.

Also, an itch for putting on a little bit of a minstrel show when it comes to Muslims in the recent years (ever since early 2000s). The kajal in the eyes and the rotary bead just has to be there. And they have to talk like they're from old Delhi or Charminar

Well, to be honest, these Bollywood songs aren't so "ishtial-angez" as Satanic Verses.

Pakistani Mullahs have an incessant need to follow. They'll latch on to issues their masters (aka the Middle Easterns) have problems with. Hence why a Gaza operation can leave MA Jinnah road blocked but not an operation by the Thai military on southern Thai Muslims. You'll notice many Mullahs touting watered down pro-Israel sentiments now. It's cause their masters have decided to mend ties and they must follow.

Bollywood doesn't scandalize the Arab sensibilities hence its Kosher.

.
Bollywood has got Punjabified from the Muslim crowd that used to rule it.

Cheers, Doc
