Zia's grave will be removed from parliament premises: minister
2021-08-30

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has reiterated the government's plans to remove the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman from the parliament premises amid renewed discussions over the former president's tomb.

The gallantry title conferred on the late military ruler and wartime sector commander Zia will also be revoked in light of "documentary evidence" about his involvement in the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the minister said during a seminar at the National Press Club on Monday.

Talks over the removal of unplanned structures, including Zia's mausoleum, from the parliament complex had arisen at several sessions of the ninth and tenth National Assembly after the Awami League came to power in 2008.

At the time, the BNP voiced strong objection to the move but the discussions eventually petered out.

However, the matter once again came to the fore after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently said Zia's body was not in the grave.

“Not only Zia's grave but all other graves and illegal structures have to be removed from the parliament premises," said Mozammel amid the ongoing back and forth between the Awami League and BNP.

"There should be nothing outside what was in the original design of the parliament. Everything else is illegal.”

There is no need to keep Zia's grave in Dhaka, according to Mozammel. The grave in Chandrima Udyan is empty, the veteran Awami League leader said, adding that if Zia's body is located anywhere, his followers could go there to pay their respects to him.

"Ziaur Rahman's body could not be found. God knows what was in the coffin. A wooden box is buried there.”
Mozammel also spoke about identifying the body that lies in the grave in Chandrima Udyan.

"If there are any remains in that grave then prove that those are Zia's by running a DNA test. If there is proof (Zia's body is there), I will apologise to the nation.”

Minister for Liberation War Affairs said that the title of Ziaur Rahman Biruttam, the commander of Z Force during the war of liberation was canceled.

On rescinding Zia's 'Bir Uttam' title, the minister said, “I cannot be a son of the soil who pays the highest respect to someone who kills the father of the nation. That is why no assassin of Bangabandhu can have the title. ”

Stressing that the titles of those involved in Bangabandhu's assassination have been revoked, he added, "There is circumstantial evidence that Ziaur Rahman was involved. I will also say that there is documentary evidence. We haven't done it yet [revoked Zia's title]. We are waiting for proof.”

But wasn’t he the one who actually started the rebellion?

And, now he's the paying the price to be a traitor to Pak on behalf of India....

By the by, most probably Zia's skeletons aren't in that grave to begin with! Magazines after magazines were dumped into his body by the angry and drunk officers, who happened to be ex-Mukti like him, and turned it into a heap of minced meat!! Then they buried it at an undisclosed location without any Ghusl, Kefen, and Jenaza!! Later, the BD authority said they found the dead body and brought it to Dhaka, but nobody was allowed to open the coffin and see his body.....

Now, compare it to the death and burial of the top Pak generals in the East Pak theater: Tikka Khan, AAK Niazi, Khadim Husein Raja, Rao Forman Ali, Muhammed Jamshed, Rahim Khan etc. All of them died at the ripe old age of 80+, and died at the comfort of a hot bed and amongst family and friends, and were buried with a full military/Islamic honor....

Bottom-line: don't be a traitor to Pak; it doesn't pay off for you live and die in a Na-Pak state

We created the environment that led to the debacle in 71, specifically Bhutto and Yayah.

Mujeeb was rightfully elected and should have become president, all discussions should have taken place after the reality was accepted

Yes, the Pak establishment is responsible for the debacle for they couldn't identify and nip the traitors at the bud. Mujib was under the tremendous influence of the leftist folks in the Eat Pak, who were all the agents and proxies of India. Pak should have eliminated them much earlier! Still, they're making the same mistake of not physically eliminating the likes of PDM, PTM etc. en masse...

*Learn from Mrs Gandhi how she tackled the Naxal movement in the West Bengla, or the Khalistani movement in Punjab. If a single teacher or student in a college was found to be a Naxal, all the teachers and students were killed. If a single member of a family was found to be Naxal, the entire family was killed.

Should have let him assume office but then moved towards a confederation model when the president would be the symbolic head of states but the States of East and West Pakistan would have their own prime ministers and state assemblies.

The opening of Parliament could have been turned into an event when both state assemblies come together under a same roof to form a National Assembly.

But alas, small men in big offices led to our beautiful countries having a needlessly bloody divorce.

Read the history, that was initiated in 1968 and already touch the peak on 1969. Don't forget Ayub Khan insulating remarks about the Bangladeshi nation. It is fact Mujib won the election but our military didn't let them make the govt and put him house arrest. Bhutto or Yahiya entered when damage was done.
Bangladesh is tasting its own medicine provided by Indians. We made mistakes but the Bangla nation cross all lines due to Indian state-sponsored terrorist activities.

Mujib's leftist Indian agent cohorts had been training under the auspices of RAW to militarily separate East Pak much earlier starting in 1970! The Pak Intelligence had that information. So, they applied a delaying technique to bring in troops to upset that. Anyway, it proved to be futile for it was too late by then....

Mujib himself might not be that much in favor of the physical break-up of Pak like some of his top lieutenants. But, events were going out of his hands as nobody was helping him, thanks to the power hunger of Bhutto, and the mistakes and ineptitude of the Pak establishment....

You should be thanking the indians for the safe protection and passage of your troops and officers away from BD. Bhai-Bhai
Mr Niazi (stripped of rank) ? well he is remembered for being a loser who lost a part of his country. General Zia ? controversial figure but still remembered as one the great Bengali leaders of all time after Mujib , Sher-e-Bangla, Bhashani of course.

Wannabe Turk is back in action boys, grab your popcorn.
Chere den.

Man this stuff is funny. Some deluded Bangladeshis want to be more like Pakistan, while those Pakistanis themselves want to be Turks. and some of those Turks themselves want to be Europeans.
:undecided:
oh well, at least most Indians (and thankfully I think most actual Bangladeshis outside PDF too) own up to South Asian identity.
