Police have arrested BNP leader Nipun Roy Chowdhury over Wednesday’s clashes at Naya Paltan.

Nipun, a lawyer by training and member of the party’s Central Executive Committee, is the daughter of former state minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury and daughter-in-law of the party’s senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.

Photos of Nipun carrying a stick during the clashes have appeared in the media.

The BNP has claimed Baby Naznin was arrested along with Nipun on Thursday evening, but the law enforcers denied arresting the singer-turned-politician.

Police arrested Nipun from near the Nightingale bend after she left the BNP offices in the evening.

“Police have arrested Baby Naznin and Nipun Roy from near Nightingale,” the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told the media.

Md Nurunnabi, a deputy commissioner at Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch, confirmed the news of her arrest to bdnews24.com. “She is accused in a case over yesterday’s incident.”

Nurunnabi said the police did not arrest Naznin. He dismissed Rizvi’s claim as a rumour, saying no other agency arrested the singer either.

Naznin is gunning for the BNP’s nomination in the upcoming parliamentary election.

She was seen on Thursday at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters, in front of which the clashes erupted.

Besides Nipun and Rizvi, about 200 people accused in the cases include BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, his wife and Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal chief Afroza Abbas, BNP Vice-Chairman Akhtaruzzaman, its Jatrabarhi unit chief Nabiullah Nabi and Kafil Uddin, a member of the BNP chief’s Advisory Council.

Police have arrested around 65 members of the party and its affiliates over the clashes. The charges against them include assaulting police, arson attacks, and obstruction to government duty.

The law enforcers said they identified most of the members of the BNP and its affiliates involved in the violence and were trying to arrest them.

Afroza led a procession of her supporters carrying banners and festoons to the BNP offices, violating electoral code of conduct, according to the case dossiers. Later, Nabi and Kafil Uddin brought two more processions.

The road was completely blocked when Mirza Abbas led a procession of thousands of supporters to the area, Sub-Inspector Somen Kumar Barua said in one of the cases.

“They did not pay any heed when we requested them to leave a lane open for traffic. We also requested Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to ask the leaders and activists to follow the electoral code of conduct by loudspeaker.

“But the BNP activists launched attacks on the police with intention to kill,” the police officer said.

Some crude bombs were found at the scene, he added.

I would not believe this news , but can the picture picture tell lie? What the hell she was doing there with bamboo stick? This is not a good sign.
Nipun Roy is the daughter in law of BNP presidium member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.
If BNP think that they will be tolerated after another chaos in BD , they are making mistake I believe . Attack on police remind me those furious old days before and after 2014 election .

May Allah save us from any chaos .
Another news ( the daily star) link about this incident of attacking on police .

Good to see that she has been put to her place. Vandalising public Property with bamboo sticks and expecting badshahi treatment?
Agree. I want democracy , a fair election. But if it cost the order and peace of Bangladesh I strongly oppose it.

There is no way of vandalism in the name of democracy.
It's clear that a part of BNP still believe in violence .
Rizvi, goyoshshor ( গয়েশ্বর) and some others who are actually blind followers of khamba tareq, they are actually like that imo.
Other part is better part . It's time for the better part to take control if BNP really want to survive.
If they will be out of control again , I suggest govt to be extremely strong to them and again put restrictions on them .
There is no place for creating anarchy and harm peoples , destroying public Property in the name of so called democracy.
It looks BNP didn't learn lesson yet. I wish they will act control their mobs if they want to survive.

Meanwhile 2 Awami activists died resulting from clash between two Awami fraction. Police no where to be found.

How about your beloved Awami gundas????
If someone is not supporting BNP then necessarily he is supporting AL or AL become beloved to him , it's a distasteful theory .
Secondly , perhaps because you have already shown the difference between Awami and BNP supporters , so I don't think I need to explain further.

However I have been hitting AL here from the very beginning, but other than one AL supporter named personnongrata ( who already mistakenly tagged me as die hard BNP supporter, so it was another savage idea from him, still he was not so straight like you , but that's not relevant here), no AL folks here reacted like this way you did after this post.
If you don't know what I am saying, if you really don't have any idea about the inner meaning of my message , then don't bother quoting me next time only to start bickering,I really have no taste of it.

Just keep in mind , your team once fall behind after 2013-2015 incident ,and now will be permanently vanish from Bangladeshi politics if you guys fall prey to the trap of AL govt.
So better learn who is the ally of your BNP, we common peoples who are supporting a peaceful movement from oikko front against AL govt, or AL is the ally of BNP who is trying to provoke BNP so BNP boycott another election and permanently vanish from BD politics, just use your brain ( if you guys really have it unlike your brainless leader khaleda zia), and choose right ally instead of giving AL tag to common folks .
Now the decision is yours, which side you choose, choose AL trap or choose them who really want democracy.
