BNP yesterday expressed outrage and surprise over comments made by the Chinese Ambassador over Bangladesh and the current government.

In a press statement, signed by BNP's Senior Joint General Secretary Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizbi, the party made its stance clear.

"A video statement of the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh has come to the notice of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). We, like all pro-democracy people, are outraged and surprised by his comments about Bangladesh and the government," reads the statement.

"Democracy, equality, human rights and social justice are the key elements of our great Liberation War that cost lives and sacrifices of millions of martyrs. At a time when this illegal government is continuously depriving the entire country of all these rights, the unrealistic statement made by the Chinese Ambassador in favour of the present government has deeply angered and hurt the people," it said.

Terming the government "fascist", the statement said, the current government has snatched the voting rights of people and destroyed democracy in the country.

What China does in the country is its concern, it said, adding that the people of Bangladesh have traditionally exercised their rights through free and fair elections.

Therefore, people of the country and Bangladesh Nationalist Party expect that China will stand by the people and not the "illegal" government -- for the sake of free elections, human rights and democracy, BNP said.

The BNP has strongly protested a recent statement made by the Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka on the Bangladesh government and democracy. The party responded with anger and surprise.

The response was given in a statement signed by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday night.

The statement titled ‘Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP’s position in the light of the statement made by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Dhaka’ said, We, like the pro-democracy people, are angry and surprised at his assessment and comments about Bangladesh and the current illegitimate government of Bangladesh.

The statement said, “Democracy, equality, human rights and social justice are the key consciousness of the independence of our motherland achieved at the cost of the lives and sacrifices of millions of martyrs in the great liberation war.” While this illegitimate anti-people government without mandate of the people is continuously depriving the whole country of all these rights, when the people of Bangladesh are vocal in restoring their democratic rights, international democratic circles and human rights organizations are constantly warning this government. This unrealistic statement made in favor of Bangladesh and the present fascist government of Bangladesh has deeply angered and hurt the people of the country.

The statement said, “The government is so afraid of free elections, democracy and public opinion that the only slogan of the government now is to show people in the name of development with the money of unaccountable opaque debt.” Which is basically the source of corruption of the authoritarians. According to the constitution of Bangladesh, the people are the real owners of the state. But through disappearances, murders, false cases and state torture, the people who own the state have been turned into helpless and helpless people. ‘

The BNP statement said, “What system China will maintain in its own country is an internal matter. But the people of Bangladesh have traditionally exercised their state ownership through free elections and direct suffrage. Because the exercise of direct suffrage is the lifeblood of democracy and the only means of exercising the power of the people, through which the state is bound to be accountable to the people. This is the universal way of practicing democracy at the United Nations and internationally. “

The statement signed by Rizvi said, “Therefore, the expectation of the BNP and the people towards China is that they will always stand by the people who are the real owners of the country.

In a related development, Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Li Jimming has raised questions about the US-led Democracy Summit hosted by US President Joe Biden. In a video message posted on the Facebook page of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Friday, Li Jimming said that China has made significant progress in the overall development of people’s democracy through the integrated process of socialist modernization. The story of Bangladesh is also one. The country has made great strides in socio-economic development and democracy. In a country where a government has widespread public support, if it is not recognized as democracy, then perhaps it is time to re-evaluate the definition of democracy or to question the motive behind this definition.

Dude, do not be surprised that you are nowhere near the levers of power after your shambolic administration between 2002-2007.

Well BNP is without proper leadership or any chance to get back as a party with any support. Unfortunate but true.

Their leaders issuing statements and trying to be relevant is rather sad...

.
@bluesky , O bhaijan go , ei news Bangla the Ami e disilam apnake arekta thread a.

Now everyone will read the concern of BNP.

India ke vatar mene Taiwan er sathe prem korle ( 2004 ) emon to hobei !

BNP leadership was the true puppet of India, same as some BAL goons.

Politics is more complex than Bangladeshi people can ever imagine!

Bangladesh must follow Chinese model and fu.cking BNP can just fuk off!

Sire @Hakikat ve Hikmet , and ustadji @Al-zakir why both china and Pakistan are taking BAL side instead of pirane pir Sahiban Khaleda Zia?

Are China and Pakistan becoming Hindu like Hasina?

:undecided: :sarcastic: :omghaha:

Why do you think people will vote for a shambolic party? But what are you Chetona guys worried about? Let people get rid of RAB intimidation and disappearance and participate in a fair election.

Everyone accepts the results. That's all!! And note it is coming soon because, without the RAB fear, people will come out to participate in the public meetings. So why are you so worried?

Well, this is the title of the news. I understand the reasons that BNP is angry with China.

But, BNP itself is led by childish leaders Khaleda at the top. When in power, Morshed Khan was the Foreign Minister. He decided to allow Taiwan to establish a Trading House in Dhaka. A Taiwanese trading house means effectively an Embassy of Taiwan.

From that point, China stopped its neutrality and started to woo BAL friendship. Now, why should BNP be so unhappy? Its former action has been properly reciprocated by a Chinese slap now.

BNP has been an all-round dumb-dumb party from the start.

OK. Since BNP hates China, it means that China should actually double down on support to the current government since they've already declared their hostility. What an own goal.
"Hate" is a strong word
They're probably just saying dont pick sides in Bangladesh's domestic politics
Not saying ambassador picked a side but BNP probably precieved it to be

Currently party of Bangladesh doing well for the country. I hope it will continue for decades. Btw, Bangladesh economy doing good despite with pandemic going on.

Actually, BNP may not be a dumb party from the beginning when General Zia was there. It started with Khaleda seeking the post of BNP Chairperson.

She had to remove Justice Sattar from the President of BD. Once done, a weak Sattar loses also the post of BNP Chairman. So, at that point, she clandestinely joined General Ershad and he staged a coup to remove President Sattar.

You can see it by the inaction of BNP when Ershad took over the state power. BNP/ Khaleda chose not to contest him. Khaleda was told earlier by Ershad that once he takes power, he would arrange a general election and Begum Zia would become the President of the country.

Ershad was supported by India and Begum Zia could not force him out until Hasina Bibi joined BNP to force Ershad out after a long nine years.

Khaleda is a silly and spoiled woman. It is the same with her two sons. I do not see any good future for BD with Tareque at the helm.

However, there is no alternative to democracy in the country and a time will arrive when people will support good leaders instead of electing people like Murad Hassan.
