What's new

BN signed a contract for two more Type 053H3 frigates, including ex- Putian (pennant number 523)

I get the comparison brother, looks like the F16 has quite a bit heavier armament....

Thank you Bhai for your take on this.

I would like to hold judgement as so many rumours going round with BD being interested in buying 2 Type-054A frigates that I am really worried that the next-gen frigate program may end up getting cancelled.

Don't worry, there is plenty of funding available for the new generation (NewGen) Frigate program.

On the subject of LPD, MM Navy is probably buying something similar to Makassar class from Korea (where the design came from). Little do they know that we have excellent relations with PT PAL (Persero) and can probably order our own from that yard (like the Filipinos), but who knows what is planned at BN. I feel we may hear good news within the first half of next year.

In any case I wish all PDF Bhais/brothers my best wishes for a happy and safe Holiday Season (everyone, even Sanghi folks).

Enjoy the winter holidays and a Happy New Year - see you after....signing off for now.

Who told you they cannot deal with 1980s Kilo as they have both sonar and torpedoes. Anyway why just stick to ships?

Why do you think BD ordered two of these babies?:

View attachment 595213

See those two torpedoes there to sink your 1980s Kilo down to the bottom of the Bay of Bengal. These are brand new and modern Western ASW helicopters optimised to destroy surface and sub-surface targets

If you must stick with ships how about the two Durjoy class LPC with ASW capability?
It is equipped with the latest in Chinese anti-submarine sonar and torpedoes. I would bet on it against a 1980s Kilo sub.

Again “if”?
Tired of “if” and “will” .
If BD buy blah blah. . .
BD will buy blah blah . . .
You can argue with me.
But you cannot deny the fact that 80% of your frigates are old secondhand junk dumped by Chinese Navy and US coast guard.

.
LOL!! No they are not!! Look i don't mean to offend you but judging by your recent comments on some things it looks like you are the most ignorant and stupidest Burmese member in PDF. Sorry to say that but please don't engage in argument and make yourself a laughing stock if you don't know anything. And don't dangle around that LPD, without proper fleet it means nothing.

Ha ha . . A stupid guy defending his secondhand junk Navy while many of the Bdshi are not happy with it.

These helicopters are on order.

I don't need to defend anything you moron. My secondhand junk navy is still better trained, skilled and equipped than yours. More stuff are being added every year than you can't afford. Keep feeling comfortable with your shallow hulled, MANPAD, sea state 4 capable frigate and LPD without proper escort.

Ignorant twat like you should look at your own navy before calling other's navy secondhand junk. LOL you don't even have TDL so your missile is ineffective after 35km. Forget TDL, get your guys some good uniform. They look like beggar in that disgusting blue-black dress.

Where are you getting these silly idea from? Type 54A is also a candidate for our future frigate. BN can select and build something based on this.

One kilo against 2 subs already with BD.

BD surface fleet is already overwhelmingly more powerful than Myanmar.

I think that just buying more and more 2nd hand ships from China will just end up being a logistical nightmare and very expensive to maintain.

Better just wait a few more years for the next-gen frigates to come online
For small and medium economy countries, they are unable to maintain a large fleet of dedicated coastguard. Best will be invest money more on warship for dual purpose to save cost for fighting enemy navy and protecting sovereign sea.

"On MN decks, memories of a humiliating climb-down a decade ago in the face of the Bangladesh Navy still rankle.

Natural gas exploration undertaken by a South Korean drilling platform escorted by MN vessels in disputed waters near the two sides’ maritime border triggered first diplomatic protests and then in November 2008 a concentration of superior Bangladeshi naval firepower, which forced the MN to back down and quit the area...."

In 2009 average life of BN fleet was ~25 years. It's fleet was nearing obsolence & combat readiness was falling.

In 2019 average life of BN fleet has fallen below 20 years & combat readiness has increased many folds.

This one single point shall remind you what a great feat BN has pulled already. This wouldn't be possible if BN only relied on inducting brand new ships.

Building & inducting new ships are time costly matter. It's very challenging to balance retirement rate & replacement rate. BN has retired at least two ships just this year. Couple more is slated to retire in next few years.

Building small ships like Patrol craft & LPC'S takes smaller time but that's a complete different scale to build a ship in Frigate or destroyer class. Even more challenging for country like Bangladesh.

So BN has played the smartest way possible in this situation.

They are building smaller ships & buying older ships with a considerable life left in them. Perfectly playing to balance the retirement & replacement rate. While going ahead with new generation frigates program.

Don't forget BN still has a sturck capability gap in auxiliary fleet i.e. replenishment ship etc. BN still has a uphill task to complete.

So encourage them not otherwise.

But the oldest frigate is 51 years old and the youngest is 20. So the average life of your frigate fleet is 32. How can be below 20?

The 4 Type-056 Corvettes are new and hence brings down the average age considerably.
Also lots of OPVs are being built.

Even if you take account those Corvettes, the life of the major surface ships is more than 20.

S 161 + S 162 life is 60 years
F 15 + F 17 life is 65 years
F 28 + F 29 life is 99 years
F 16 + F 19 life is 41 years
F 111 to F 114 life is 8 years

Total life of 12 major ships that inducted to BN after 2009 is 273 years. Simple maths.
