Twin bomb attacks targeting police in the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar have killed five people, including a senior police officer, officials said today.
The deadliest attack saw a suicide bomber attack a vehicle carrying Rasheed Khan, the deputy superintendent of police in southern Peshawar.
Khan and three others, including his driver, one of his guards and a passerby, were killed, police official Shafqat Malik said.
Authorities originally said the suicide bomber was in a car, but Malik said he was on foot and used about 7kg (15lb) of explosives. Seven people were injured in the attack, which happened on the outskirts of Peshawar.
Less than three hours later, a roadside bomb hit a police vehicle on patrol, killing one policeman and wounding three others, police official Fazle Wahid said. The bombing happened several miles from the scene of the first attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombings, but Peshawar has been repeatedly attacked by the Pakistani Taliban.
The city is located next to Pakistan's tribal area, which militants use as a main base of operations.
