Blast kills two employees of U.S. consulate in Pakistan, soldiers - Kerry
Tue Mar 1, 2016 11:05pm IST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two local employees of the U.S. consulate in the Pakistani city of Peshawar and some soldiers have been killed by an explosive device while on drug-eradication mission, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Tuesday.

"Just this morning, I woke to the news that we had lost two local employees in Peshawar who worked with our consulate there who were going out on a effort to eradicate narcotics fields," Kerry told an event in Washington on countering violent extremism.

"An IED exploded and several were lost; a few of the soldiers who were there to guard them also," Kerry said.

State Department spokesman John Kirby said the incident occurred on Tuesday when the two Pakistani employees were traveling in a Pakistani government Anti-Narcotics Force convoy in Ambar tehsil, in the Mohmand Agency of Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

"The U.S. government strongly condemns the attack," Kirby said, adding that the United States was offering its assistance to Pakistan in investigating the incident and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

They worked for a noble cause. Only utter fools with their brains in their buttocks would have any issue with drug eradication working alongside our ANF and troops.
Sir mercenaries fighting with us depends on the trade of drugs, Any effort to eradicate this trade a blow to their main income source...P.A should also involve in this cause it will give a massive blow to their ability to fight with us.

It is sad to know that two locally employed staff with the United States Mission in Pakistan were senselessly murdered in an attack against a Government of Pakistan Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) convoy in Mohmand Agency while they travelled with them on a drug-eradication mission.

Secretary of State, John Kerry said, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of these brave individuals. I know nothing we say can adequately assuage their grief, but they should know we are thinking of them and share their profound sense of loss.” He further said, “We hold in the highest regard all our host country colleagues who serve in our missions around the world. These men and women choose a life of service to improve the lives of their families and citizens and are essential to helping implement our goal of promoting shared prosperity and values. They are our friends, our teachers, and our guardians, and we are profoundly grateful for the sacrifices they make every day.”

We need to continue to work together to eradicate the menace of terrorism and its sources of funding; narcotics being one of them. The Secretary also offered our assistance to the government of the region in investigating the incident and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
