A small-time model Meghna Patel has put Modi and his supporters in a fix by posing almost in the buff.
Mail Today – Tue 11 Feb, 2014
MUMBAI: BJP’S prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has deftly handled many a Patel in his political career, but this is one Patel he would like to avoid.
A small-time model Meghna Patel has put Modi and his supporters in a fix by posing almost in the buff. Meghna has posed with lotus and a placard seeking support for Modi in a series of photographs that have gone viral on the Net. In one of the photos, Meghna is posing nude with a placard reading ‘vote for Narendra Modi’ covering her torso.
This “bold” act of support has left the Maharashtra BJP embarrassed. State BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandhari said: "We welcome people supporting us, but we are not in support of such vulgar display. If you want to support Modi, there are other ways like attending his rallies.
We completely condemn this behavior.” The state BJP dismissed Meghna’s “support” as an attempt to seek two minutes of fame. “She is just trying to generate publicity for herself,” said Bhandari.
The state BJP has decided to take legal action against models who try to make a name by defaming the party. “ I have spoken to central leaders and have suggested that we should take some kind of legal action in future. The decision is up to them now,” said Bhandari.
Meghna, however, has claimed that her support for Modi is not “vulgar” at all.
Speaking to the media, she, in fact, claimed that she was wearing “all her clothes” when she posed for the photo shoot. “You can’t call it nude or vulgar. I was wearing all my clothes. This is how I am expressing my support for Modi and the BJP,” she said.
A well-known model co-oridnator told Mail Today that Patel’s stunt had nothing to do with support for Modi. “These are all desperate measures to get publicity. They (new models) know that by invoking the name of Modi or Rahul they can draw media attention and become a talking point. While some of them approach PETA for nude photo shoot, others resort to such brazen tactics,” said the co-ordinator.
