Just two days ahead of the assembly polls, Christians in the national capital protested in large numbers on Thursday over repeated attacks on various churches across the city and the government's inaction on those. Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha was arrested after he reached the protest site to show solidarity with the people from the Christian community.

"I am here in my personal capacity, only want to show solidarity," said Chadha.
As a mark of silent protest, hundreds of Christians and their supporters organised a peaceful march from Sacred Heart Cathedral in Central Delhi to home minister Rajnath Singh's house on Thursday morning. However, the Delhi Police tried to stop the marauding protesters from moving towards his residence and detained many of them, including nuns and priests.
"It's a silent protest to express our anguish over government's inaction in the church attack cases," a protester told TV reporters.
Protesters were seen chanting "We want justice" outside the Cathedral, even as Delhi Police tried to move them inside the church premises. Section 144 has been imposed outside the Home Minister's residence. "Have detained some protesters, legal process will be followed," Mukesh Meena, joint commissioner of police said.

Protesters were loaded onto police buses to clear the site with chants of "Hallelujah" being heard.
The protesters are demanding an answer as to why the police has not taken any action against the recent attacks and vandalism on churches by miscreants and why the government is kept silent on the matter. A church in South Delhi's Vasant Kunj area was vandalised by unidentified miscreants on Monday, marking the fifth such attack on churches since November last year.

Last month, a church was vandalised in West Delhi's Vikaspuri area. In December, the St Sebastian's Church in Dilshad Garden was partly gutted and the Christian community had alleged foul play in the incident. More than 4000 Christians protested as a result of which a SIT was constituted to probe the matter.
