Airline technology provider Sabre announced that it has successfully migrated Biman Bangladesh Airlines to the SabreSonic Passenger Service System. Bangladesh’s national flag carrier has moved from its legacy technology system to Sabre’s modern PSS in the first phase of its technological transformation and the airline will be continuing its digital enhancement with Sabre technology as it moves forward with plans to grow its route network this year. The national carrier of Bangladesh already flies to routes across Asia, the Middle East and the UK, and is set to expand to Toronto, Tokyo, Male, Colombo, Guangzhou, Bahrain, Chennai and New York.

“While the world was facing international lockdown measures, it was vital to us that our technological transformation did not slow down, but that we were able to advance our digital transformation to prepare for the resumption of travel,” said Dr. Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal, managing director and CEO, Biman Bangladesh Airlines. “We’re thrilled with the way Sabre has worked with us to support our rapidly-evolving needs during the pandemic. The swift implementation of Sabre’s innovative solutions means we are now ready to respond to new market demands while creating improved offers and better experiences for our travellers.”
The airline, which celebrated its Golden Jubilee earlier this year, has adopted SabreSonic to power growth and streamline the traveller experience as well as renewing its global distribution agreement with Sabre, and selecting an additional set of complementary Sabre technology solutions. This timely implementation will help Biman to automate and streamline sales and reservations to maximise revenue opportunities, minimise costs, enhance inventory revenue optimisation, extend reach through partnerships, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its offers and operations.

“The way in which our teams at Sabre and our travel partners have collaborated to successfully drive complex migrations virtually, including digital-only onboarding and training, has been remarkable,” said Cem Tanyel, chief services officer, Sabre Travel Solutions. “By adapting and innovating, we have been able to deliver successful implementations in tight timescales under challenging circumstances. We’re thrilled that we’ve been able to strengthen our partnership with Biman with a swift technological migration so our solutions can support them as we all look forward to further travel resumption this year.”

did they choose outdated system

No. This sort of reservation system (SABRE) was being used by American Airlines and United/Continental starting in the mid-80's -ditto with Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines. And Biman is just now formalizing this sort of thing. Just amazing.

Everyone knows the root cause, which is corrupt Biman reservation agents making their own Two Paise under the table in cahoots with travel agents and manpower people. They resisted an automated reservation system like this for the longest time. It was all manual, paper and pen.

The latest SABRE system is web-enabled, letting passengers make their own reservations on the Internet. No more corrupt Biman employees involved.

I mean in India people used this sort of automated reservation system for rail travel twenty years ago (forget airlines), which was mostly homegrown. Half of Biman's idiots should be fired, especially the ground staff, no good corrupt greedy idiots.

Biman is full of Ghatiya unqualified idiots appointed by being someone's nephew or cousin....

Only plus side is that the fleet is very young and new (Brand new 787's, 737's and 777's).

thanks for the information

corruption is crazy in biman
the new planes we got we just waste it lifespan on short haul or in non profit destination

we are small airline if we had managed it honestly we would have been profit since 1980s
i am not sure if privatization will do any good also

but you must admit biman earn a lot of money but is good in make money :)

Well the airplanes were bought because of kickbacks.

Biman counts very poorly in all airline efficiency and benchmark surveys. They have made some minimal improvements but for an airline serving a nation of 160 Million it is embarrassing...

I’m wondering how did this 8th wonder of the world survive this long without this system 😂

Sorry about the Bangla language, but this video shows the corruption of the air ticket syndicate in Bangladesh.

Gov should lobby for Dhaka- NYC (JFK ) route to be reopened for Biman , next time we buy a boeing jet or sign whatever deal we sign with US in the future.

it was a profitable route,

it was a profitable route,

Bangladesh Govt. did not negotiate this well with US Govt. or FAA, who is in charge of allotting slots, when we bought the new 787 and 777 jets brand new from Boeing. That said, any one of the NYC Int'l airports would do, whether JFK or Newark (EWR), which have open slots. Both airports serve NYC metropolitan area and NJ. Among Int'l airlines serving Newark is S'pore Airlines, non-stop from S'pore.

I believe the new 787-9's are capable of serving Dhaka-NYC area direct without stoppage. On the back leg, they can stop at London Heathrow or Manchester to pick up Bangladesh-bound passengers.

Newark is building a new Terminal A, which will be opened sometime in 2022. Int'l flights by non-US carriers are still closed at Newark (due to Omicron), but will be available soon. I believe instead of pushing for hard-to-get slots at JFK, Biman should try to get slots at the new Terminal A in Newark.

Once three of us had to go to Rajshahi to attend a marriage. I went to BIMAN Motijheel in Dhaka. They said all tickets have been sold. So, I came to Faridpur thinking of going by train. My youngest brother asked the reason and I stated what happened in Motijheel.

My younger brother started laughing. He called the BIMAN MD who happened to be the uncle-in-law (খালু শ্বশুর) of another of my brothers who was living in NY. When three of us were flying, I found there were still five seats vacant.

So, I ask you and other guys when and how you will fix this kind of corruption. It is very sad thing in BIMAN.
