Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 will arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Sunday afternoon to join the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

It is going to be the fifteenth aircraft to join the national flag carrier’s fleet, reports UNB citing a press release.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, scheduled to inaugurate the first flight on Sept 1, has named the jetliner Akash Beena.

The Boeing 787-8, designed to be 20 per cent fuel efficient, has a total of 271 seats with 24 in business class and 247 in economy class.

The aircraft will initially be used to operate flights from Dhaka to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

It will provide its passengers with wifi services at a height of 43,000 feet.

The aircraft will also have in-flight entertainment system.

It will also provide facilities for online shopping, with a credit card or cash payment allowed on the on-board duty-free shop.

In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a US$2.1 billion agreement with aircraft manufacturer Boeing to purchase 10 new aircraft.

So far, four new Boeing 777-300 and two Boeing 737-800 aircraft were commissioned.

With the addition of four new planes, I wish BIMAN to reopen its Narita route. It could be successful if the route is DAC-BKK (or KLM)-NRT (or HANEDA). However, at least a weekly two or three flights are needed for a successful business. Last time the NRT slot was only for one day which was a recipe for the business to go sour. So, finally, BIMAN closed its Tokyo operations many years ago.

But, Airbus A350 is better in my opinion...

Yes kind of.
A350 has much better range for sure and can travel to any large city in the world from BD in one go.
However Dreamliner has enough range to travel to any US or European city from BD without refueling.
This is enough for next decade. Maybe when Biman needs to order again, it will go with Airbus and have a mixed fleet.

I remember the first time I saw a Biman DC-10 fly over my house before landing at JFK.

It was a beautiful sight which became common in the 90's.

It would be great to see a Biman 787 do the same thing.

Those were ordered in 2008 while Airbus A350 took it's first flight in 14 June 2013. The first design received negative feedback from several major prospective customers, so they re-designed it. Anyway why is it taking so long to deliver all aircrafts?? 6 aircraft in 10 years??!!

Yes, this route via London should be priority number one. In the case of Japan, there are not many BD passengers because not many deshi people live here. However, Japanese passengers are huge in number. But, many of them are not supposed to visit BD.

They usually go to Bangkok, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur for business, recreation or sightseeing. By tying up with Japanese traveling agents BIMAN can get a fair share of SE Asia bound passengers. But, it must operate at least two flights a week because the time-crunched Japanese make short visits, Three flights a week is much better. Anyway, in my opinion, it should not start a business with only one flight.

ওয়াটার ক্যানন স্যালুটের মাধ্যমে স্বাগত জানানো হলো সর্বাধুনিক প্রযুক্তিসম্বলিত নতুন বোয়িং ৭৮৭ ড্রিমলাইনার উড়োজাহাজ ‘আকাশবীণা’কে। রোববার বিকেল ৫টা ২০ মিনিটে দীর্ঘ প্রতীক্ষা শেষে ড্রিমলাইনার ‘আকাশবীণা’ হযরত শাহজালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরের রানওয়ে স্পর্শ করে।

এ সময় বিমানবন্দরে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিমানের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক ও সিইও এএম মোসাদ্দিক আহমেদ, সিভিল এভিয়েশনের চেয়ারম্যান নাঈম হাসান, বিমানের পরিচালক প্রশাসন মমিনুল ইসলামসহ ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তারা।

বিমান বাংলাদেশ এয়ারলাইন্সের পরিচালনা পর্ষদের চেয়ারম্যান এয়ার মার্শাল (অব.) ইনামুল বারীর নেতৃত্বে একটি প্রতিনিধি দল উড়োজাহাজটি নিয়ে আসেন। গত বুধবার দলটি সিয়াটলে বোয়িং কোম্পানি থেকে ড্রিমলাইনারটি আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে গ্রহণ করেন।



এ উড়োজাহাজ যুক্ত হওয়ার মধ্যদিয়ে বিমান বহরে উড়োজাহাজের সংখ্যা দাঁড়ালো ১৫টি। আগামী ১ সেপ্টেম্বর এটির উদ্বোধন করবেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা। ওইদিন বিকেলে প্রথম বাণিজ্যিক ফ্লাইট হিসেবে ভাগ্যবান ২৭১ যাত্রী নিয়ে কুয়ালামপুরের উদ্দেশে উড়বে এই ড্রিমলাইনার।

বিমান বাংলাদেশ এয়ারলাইন্স ২০০৮ সালে মার্কিন উড়োজাহাজ নির্মাতা প্রতিষ্ঠান বোয়িং কোম্পানির সঙ্গে ১০টি নতুন বিমান ক্রয়ের জন্য দুই দশমিক এক বিলিয়ন ইউএস ডলারের চুক্তি করে।



ইতোমধ্যে চারটি নতুন বোয়িং ৭৭৭-৩০০ ইআর, দুটি নতুন বোয়িং ৭৩৭-৮০০ ও একটি বোয়িং ৭৮৭ ড্রিমলাইনার উড়োজাহাজ বিমান বহরে যুক্ত হয়েছে। বাকি তিনটির প্রথমটি এ বছর নভেম্বর এবং সর্বশেষ দুটি ড্রিমলাইনার বিমানবহরে যুক্ত হবে আগামী বছর সেপ্টেম্বর মাসে।

আকাশবীণার আসন সংখ্যা থাকছে ২৭১টি। এর মধ্যে বিজনেস ক্লাস ২৪টি আর ২৪৭টি ইকোনমি ক্লাস। বিজনেস ক্লাসে ২৪টি আসন ১৮০ ডিগ্রি পর্যন্ত রিক্লাইন্ড সুবিধা এবং সম্পূর্ণ ফ্ল্যাটবেড হওয়ায় যাত্রীরা আরামদায়কভাবে ভ্রমণ করতে পারবেন। বিমানটিতে যাত্রীরা ইন্টারনেট ও ফোন কল করার সুবিধা পাবেন।

Welcomed by water salutes, the newest Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, 'Akaashbeena', touched down at Dhaka today. After a long wait at 5:20 pm on Sunday, the Dreamliner touched the runway at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Managing Director and CEO of AM Mosaddique Ahmed, Civil Aviation Chairman Naim Hassan, Biman's Director of Administration Mominul Islam and other senior officials were present at the airport.

A delegation led by Air Marshal (retd.) Enamul Bari, chairman of the Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, brought the aircraft home. On Wednesday, the team officially accepted the Dreamliner from the Boeing Company in Seattle.

With the help of the aircraft, the number of aircraft in Biman fleet has increased to fifteen. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate it on September 1. The Dreamliner will fly to Kuala Lumpur with the lucky group of 271 passengers with the first commercial Biman 787 flight that afternoon.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed an agreement with Boeing Company to buy 10 new aircraft worth USD 2 billion in 2008.

Meanwhile - four new Boeing 777-300ER, two new Boeing 737-800 and a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft have already been added to the fleet. The next (2nd) 787 will be added in November 2018 and the last two 787 Dreamliners will be added to the fleet in September next year.

The number of seats in Akashbeena will be 271. Of those, 24 seats are Business (J) Class and 247 are Economy (Y) Class. Passengers can travel comfortably because 24 seats in business class can recline up to 180 degrees, and full flatbeds are available. The passengers will be able to use the Internet and make phone calls.
