Bill reintroduced in US House to terminate designation of Pakistan as Major non-NATO ally 1/4/2021

Gents, let's sift through the issues instead of angry calls for a complete divorce. We are not embargoed.
Pakistan can buy what it wants from the US as long as we can fund the purchases ourselves.
I don't think so. If yes, then just give order of two things. Lets see whether you can buy it, even if you have money:
1) 100GHz spectrum analyzer(Lets say Rohde and Schwarz or Agilent or anyone)
2) Any Xilinx FPGA and related software (Specially Linux based tools).

There are millions of other objects, but lets try for these two. You will get your answer.
USA blackmails every country, right from Netherland to Australia. Everyone is USAs hostage.
So better have no reliance on USA, of any kind.
If Europe and China can do us a favor, we will obliged. Just move main Money exchanges in China and Europe(Or make new ones). And then we will be, lets say, out of USA grip.

That is a given. Our side knows what the Americans will deliver and what they will baulk at.

If FPGAs and software based products have other uses, they will certainly undergo more scrutiny. The same applies to spectrum analyzers. This is the same as the F-35 discussion where the US has tier one partners and they get them. The rest, see the case of UAE, have to beg and plead for them. Again, it's the prerogative of the Americans. They develop so they can decide whom to sell and whom not to.

Keep in mind that the last batch of F-16s acquired was 18 Blk-52s. The DSCA (Defense Security Cooperation Agency, as part of the United States Department of Defense, which provides financial and technical assistance, transfer of defense materiel, training and services to allies, and promotes military-to-military contacts) approval was for 36 total! Meaning we had the green light to go for more but the fiscal situation did not allow us to exercise the option.

This bill was introduced back in 2019. Why is the Indian media reporting it now?

India just made the payment to its lobbyists now.

You know what, I have a different approach towards things. I say, if you supply something to us, we not only buy it, we also will bring the market of that thing down.
Khail main gund hoga, tu phir donon taraf se hoga.

Chao F16's. I wonder if the existing fleet will still get maintenance. if not them break em open and reverse engineer some parts like the engine.

WASHINGTON: On the first day of the 117th Congress, a lawmaker has introduced a bill in the US House of Representatives
to terminate the designation of Pakistan as a Major non-NATO Ally.

Introduced by Republican Congressman Andy Biggs, the bill removes Pakistan's designation as a major non-NATO ally, a status that allows for various benefits such as access to excess US defense supplies and participation in cooperative defense research
and development projects.

It also seeks a presidential certification that Pakistan has taken steps to demonstrate its commitment to prevent the Haqqani Network from using any Pakistani territory as a safe haven and that the Pak government actively coordinates with Afghanistan to restrict the movement of militants, such as the Haqqani Network, along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

The bill also asks the president to certify that Pakistan has shown progress in arresting and prosecuting Haqqani Network senior leaders and mid-level operatives. The bill also notes that the US President cannot issue a separate designation of Pakistan as a Major NATO ally, unless a presidential certification that Pakistan continues to conduct military operations that are contributing to significantly disrupting the safe haven and freedom of movement of the Haqqani Network in Pakistan.

Pakistan was named a Major non-NATO ally during the Bush Administration in 2004. Currently, there are 17 Major non-NATO ally. Brazil was the last country to given this designation by President Donald Trump in 2019. The designation gives the countries to entry into cooperative research and development projects with the Department of Defense (DoD) on a shared-cost basis, participation in certain counter-terrorism initiatives, purchase of depleted uranium anti-tank rounds, priority delivery of military surplus (ranging from rations to ships).

It also gives them access to War Reserve Stocks of DoD-owned equipment that are kept outside of American military bases, offers them loans of equipment and material for cooperative research and development projects and evaluations and permission to use American financing for the purchase or lease of certain defense equipment.

The designation among other things expedites export processing of space technology and permission for the country's corporations to bid on certain DoD contracts for the repair and maintenance of military equipment outside the United States.
However, President Trump in January 2018 suspended all financial and security assistance to Pakistan. The outgoing Trump Administration even considered terminating the designation of Pakistan as a Major non-NATO ally.

Under the Obama Administration, US designated India as a Major Defense Partner.

Can someone with time on their hand dig deep into this...apparently i cant find anything concrete on this....
If it turns out to be false propaganda, it will allow us to ban Indian media reports altogether on the forum

Thank God, the drama is over.

I thought being declared a non-NATO ally meant,
that you get sanctioned,
you get blamed for everything,
you never get the equipment you need and ask for,
your enemies are given full support, even when they are attacking you,
and, all your aid stops, whilst your enemies are given extra aid.

Please, someone give me the address of the congressmen, so I can send him a THANK YOU note.

Means zilch in terms of tangible impact on Pakistan given the trajectory of US-Pakistan relations going back to the Obama administration.

However, it does illustrate the abysmal lack of understanding about Pakistan in DC and especially amongst US elected politicians.

For a country that has some of the world's best academic and research institutions, and intellect from all around the world, it is surprising how dense and short sighted US policies towards Pakistan have been.

You can blame HH for that.
