I said that the Bengali spoken in Bangladesh is different to the Bengali spoken in West Bengal. I don't know why the comment did not appear.

Minor differences, and mostly in accent & throw, even in West Bengal there are minor differences in Bengali of different districts, Bengali of Kolkata and Bengali of some village in Bankura or Birbhum would be little different. Even in Bangladesh Dhakai Bengali and Barishali Bengali would be little different from each other, the differences are only that much.

There are very big differences in the use of vocabulary. Star Jaelsa, but my mum can hardly understand what they say. Even I have observed their use of vocab on Star Jelsa.

You are a sylheti, right? Even most Bangladeshis won't understand sylheti, but Bangladeshis of Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Noyakhali, Mymensingh, Coomilla, Rajshahi, Pabna, Faridpur, etc. will understand Star Jalsha easily. And West Bengalis can understand Bengali of most parts of Bangladesh too, barring sylheti of course.

You can give me examples of the big differences.

I am glad you admit that there is "no hope in near future". This realization definitely is an achievement. Now then we must analyze how did we come to this point? Who led us into this blind alley? Couldn't we have another better future?

You know my opinion on these issues. It is for you and rest of Bangladesh to ponder upon and think about. Talk to people when you meet them, ask hard questions.

As I explained before, an avid Awami League supporter in 1970, who voted 11 times in the election in that year, told me that 30,000 people died in that war and probably more Bihari died than Bengali's. And Sheikh Mujib and Serajul Alam Khan of the Nucleus fame with Indo-Soviet connection were responsible for the creation of the new state called Bangladesh. We were brainwashed to believe that it will be good for us, our Sonar Bangla, but what do we find in reality? We find killings that we never saw between 1947-1971 and it starts right after 1971, killing of political opponents, and it continues to this day, with active help and support of neighbor country. So my question, what kind of independence we achieved then? Where is that independence that these people fought for and gave their lives for? Its all a big fat lie, is all it is.

Some good things happened since 1971, garments and remittance from mid-east, but is making clothes and sweeping streets our destiny? And I heard Ayub Khan threatened to bomb Farakka Barrage but it came into operation after 1971 and many other dams, without the consent of people of Bangladesh.

So if this Sheikh Mujib and SAK in Awami League were known traitors then Pakistan Army did the right thing to not give power to them and in trying to neutralize them. But the mistake they made was that they moved a few years too late, these traitors should have been executed long before they became powerful and created a public support around them. And also in their Operation Searchlight crack down they turned it into a Bengali vs Non-Bengali race war, trying to disarm all Bengali armed personnel and there were excesses in some killings. Now both Pakistan and Bangladesh are paying for that mistake.

When you think about West Pakistan discrimination, just concentrate on one specific point, were they killing our innocent civilians, before 25th March 1971? What is happening today since our so called independence in 1971? So how are we independent now more than we were before 1971?

Once you ponder on this point, please talk to people around you and ask them the same question, I am curious to hear, what their replies are. Consider this as a homework project and please report back what people actually say about this point.
Ha ha ha,sorry can't,office work,Son's homework /assignment, daughters homework, helping wife to balance life,I am working 24/7 as it is.And reporting to parents at the end of the day hardly leaves me any spare time.Throw in 5 times prayers, at least twice in the mousqe, I am dead beat by the time weekend roles in.
Jokes apart.Voicings my political opinion openly will not be politically correct for me.I am currently not in a position to ask such questions, yet.In closed door meeting and between family and friends sometimes, but no more.My professional position doesn't allow it.
But I do keep my years and eyes open,if not my mouth. What you are asking is a very old ,tried, failed, tested question. What actually people of Bangladesh know and how much they are permitted to access to the actual account regarding 71? The answer is almost nothing. The people who do knows about numbers, are still alive, take DR.Kamal Hosain for one, have you ever heard him talk about it?
Is there any actual list of people who died,or who were Muktijodha? The real ones.
People in my circle/society is fed up,most of them NRB,the ones who is here is either bound by tradition or fear,or rest is just self-centered and ignorant to boot.
The future is not in our hands anymore, as I said before we are outnumbered by people who does not have the capacity to understand that the situation we are in only will lead to our own destruction.
And frankly I appreciate your asking me about 71. I believe what or who or how it happened is moot point after 46 years. Two parts spanning two side of the sub continent never should have been to gather in the first place.Religion is not binding contract to be together.Otherwise our poor Muslim brothers in middle Eastern countries would not have been treated like dogs.
And snake mujib got the answer to his prayers in 15 august. Didn't he?with 100% interest.
We had bad politicians, ungrateful government, uneducated mass, little resources, no money to show, inferior complexd shared state country men.Backstabbing neighborhood country ( we still do)selfish educated middle class, clue less upper class, .These are not mear coincidence that 71 should happen. Unfortunately it should have been a 3/5 year battle, then the freedom with its full glory would have realized by heart. As it is now,I still stand with my conviction of a civil war.Maybe I will lose everything that I hold dear, but in the end will achieve something far greater than what we have now.

Do you know Bengali? What is Sanskritized Bengali? How big is the difference between the so called Sanskritized Bengali and Bengali spoken in most parts of Bangladesh? I can guarantee that you don't know Bengali. Just ask me if you want to know about that language, I am comfortable with Bangladeshi versions of Bengali also barring chatga & sylheti.

It's hilarious to see that someone with barely any understanding of Bengali is trying to pass judgements on the variants of Bengali.
i grew up in BD. and also got fed an unhealthy dose of Tagore and the likes even though it is alien and even antagonistic to Bengali Muslim history. many people question why Tagore is even celebrated at the level it is in BD. but they are also understanding more and more what has taken grip of their nation, that is exactly against why they participated in the Pakistan Movement which led to the map of Bangladesh.
Those particular Bengalis would be most of the Bangladeshi population, and they now have a sovereign country of their own, not a Pakistani colony. :)
they had a more sovereign country of their own before that since 1947. unlike in 1971, in 1947 no foreign army or logistics came to establish the nation. the Bangladeshi population themselves established East Pakistan and West Pakistan in 1947 out of their own conviction.
You should propose to remove the "Bhasha Shohid Dibosh" from the Bangladeshi calender, or to mark it as a "Foreign Language Day".

You should also propose to name & shame the martyrs of "Bhasha Andolon" for their stupidity for a foreign language.
i don't think even you would want to celebrate one day in your own country based on political rhetoric that is 99% falsehood. why you advocate something like that for us is understandable.
In every language, the formal written version is slightly different from the spoken one in daily lives, English, Hindi, Bengali, all.

BTW, tell me how much is the difference between formal Bengali and informal Bengali that the former becomes foreign? You are an expert in Bengali, right?
the Muslims of Bengal did not historically identify with Sanskritized Bengali. and even after Sanskritized Bengali was made the only official Bengali, Bengal Muslims did train in it, but besides Urdu and Farsi, and their Muslim-influenced local dialects
In 1971 pro-Bangladeshis Bengalis only attacked PA, Razakars, and non-Bengalis as non-Bengalis were supporting Pakistan and they were against creation of Bangladesh, as also evident from your views. That's why I said that Pakistan should have taken them back to Pakistan instead of keeping them stranded in Bangladesh.
good for you that you understand India's hegemonic interests that East Pakistan came under Indian control and politically transformed itself. but it's sick if you try to justify killing of unarmed people because they favoured their country's sovereignty from a foreign country India in 1971. or maybe it makes sense that you, as representing the invader India, want to kick out people who don't agree with the terms of the invader. unless that happens, the invasion that started in 1971, or the aggression that started since 1947 in this land will remain incomplete

why would there be much difference when the formal Bengali imposed in Bangladesh is the same Hindu pundit language. the language virtually penned at Fort William College in Calcutta, developed by Hindu pundits in the British scheme of destroying any continuity from the Muslim empires.

Bhai, you sound like an intelligent, mature and sensible person. We are all busy with our lives 24/7, some more and some a little less, but we still meet friends and we know whether they are neutral or not. So these discussions must be very discreet and closed door and private for obvious reasons. That is what I do here, when I meet with people in a gathering, where I can be reasonably certain that there is no Awami agent present. I have met people here who still want to kill all Bihari's and Jamati's and they say it openly, so that gives me an idea what might have happened in the past decades.

Yes, a 3/5 year battle without Indian intervention would have been better, this is what Col. Taher and Ziauddin wanted. They and other responsible commanders at the top of Mukti Bahini opposed Indian intervention, exactly because of the problem we are having now. But India had other plans, so they dictated what should happen and intervened. It was out of Bengali commanders control. They with Mujib Bahini (SAK+Razzak+Moni+Tofael) made sure that Bangladesh project stayed an Indian project. Zia and Mrs. Zia were periods out of this Indian control, but they were all temporary phases, that India worked and brought under control. So this idea that we can create Bangladesh and remain out of Indian control was fool hardy to begin with, in my opinion. This is where I believe all our leaders failed.

As for the civil war in the future, I agree with you, its inevitable, but we need to look for allies internationally who can help us achieve our goal and we should not exclude any of our former "enemies", if we need to. But for this to succeed, first and foremost, majority Bangladeshi mass people need to know what is our situation and only then the opposition leaders can plan on how we can get out of our current straight jacket situation with full public support. Agents are everywhere, but once a sufficient number of people know the real situation, only then any plan can succeed. This is why Awami's under Indian instruction have shut down all media. Fortunately they cannot shutdown foreign websites, so that is our hope to slowly inform Bangladeshi population about real history of our landmass from 1947 to today.

And this is where we come in to keep the fire going here in this website, so people can get a more neutral, unbiased and home grown perspective, untainted by Awami or BNP or Jamati bias, political parties all of whom are after all businesses trying to take care of their members well being. The concern of the country is there among some of these parties, but at the end of the day, it is not the main concern.

What you mentioned about our people being treated like dogs in mideast and other places, when we are poor and clueless, and have no other option, that is what we get, it is not unique for Muslims or Bangladeshi's. But that does not mean we will always stay like this and get this treatment. It all depends on how we can change our situation at home, and that has to start with controlling our own destiny, which we currently don't. In geopolitics, I keep trying to find proper directions for our nation, if you follow my posts in other sections you will see that first I tried with ASEAN+ idea, then as a vassal of China and now I prefer the D8 model:
Developing 8 Countries - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
or variations or subsets of it. My next goal is to interact with Turks of Turkey to see how they feel about such plans, because without their leadership and interest it will not work.
