A big political gamble is going on in Bangladesh.

1. Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs in the UN Department of Political Affairs Oscar Fernandez-Taranco has come to Bangladesh and arranged meeting between AL and BNP. both parties agreed to talk for the first time and still going on.

2. US secretary of state John Kerry phone called PM of Bangladesh today.

3. The UN assistant secretary Oscar Fernandez-Taranco now having meeting with foreign countries' diplomats.

and so many things going on

And the hearing of Quader Mullah's appeal has been adjourned till Thursday! It seems the execution has literally been canceled!

You never know. Hasina with backing from India might even go against the whole EU and US.

Not really dude, if sanctions are really imposed, she will have no other option but to back off and it will be a grave mistake if she really waits till those sanctions are imposed. And then, you can't even rule out the possibilities of Army intervention!

Her party have a handful of big and powerful business backers. Albeit, shady.

International sanctions would not be in the best interests to the likes of Salman F. Rahman and others. They don't care about ethics or principles. Their god is money, and that's all there is to them.

If Kader Mollah is not executed, she is screwed. Along with her party.

Exactly, she will be disdained even from her party members if the sanctions are imposed.

AL's popularity will hit rock bottom for sure, but it really seems the execution won't take place soon.

Fernandes taranko's lead UN attempt at bringing forth a settlement seem to have failed since his meeting with Hasina was cancelled. It obvious Hasina with the blessings of Delhi doesn't want to leave office and let go of power. This country can not go on like this just because India & Hasina wishes it to be. UN should take drastic actions now to establish peace in this country prevent Indo-awami aspirations of a one-party facist state.

U really think the party matters bro? The CT provision was revoked on Hasina's wishes alone. The strings are being pulled from delhi. Remember the advisers who advised us about how to act civilized by granting free transit. :D

They don't have anything left to screw. In electoral map BAL has long gone extinct. At best u can call it a delaying tactic. :-)

Killing time is not a great thing since there is no time for the AL! :woot: Elections are less than a month away (though, it could be deferred).

Someone in another thread, asked as to what position the US is in to interfere in the matter considering what they did to Saddam. They forget that Saddam was in fact tried in an Iraqi court, not an international one.

If they wanted to hang all Jamaat leaders so badly, then why bother to do it under the ICC first place? Why not do it in a local court which they could have done decades ago? And why now?

On the transit, it would take a lot of money to build (~$7.5 billion). Bangladesh obviously does not have the feasible financing options for the project. And India doesn't have the financial muscle necessary to provide a loan for it (they have many development projects themselves). Additionally, there is no real framework as to how the transit fees would be formulated. So consider that a dead deal. It'd be a waste of time to talk about it.

If its true we are saved, for now.
Taranco made a threat to withdrawal of UN peacekeeping missions for BD.maybe it will work in the long run.let's see...

Bangladesh liberated from Pakistan in 1971 but liberation from Indo-Awami genocidal force is ongoing. At the end, it is people of Bangladesh who need to liberate us from 42 years long Indo-Awami imposition. In the street that realization is already there. As of yesterday, Satkhira, Cox's Bazar and Natore are fully liberated from Indo Awami genocidal force. More than 40+ districts almost liberated and rest are on the way to liberation. Hasina has ordered to fortify Dhaka, she is preparing for final battle with people of Bangladesh as happened in 1971. Even though outskirt of Dhaka already seen Indo-Awami genocidal force fleeing in face of people resistance.

Remember what Sajeeb Wazed Joy said - Awami League even ready to fight army with army, to keep Hasina in power.
