Big churning in Bengal politics, about 40,000 TMC, Congress, CPM workers join BJP

In yet another of a big churning in the West Bengal politics, about 40,000 political activists in Jangalmahal associated with various parties including Trinamool Congress, Congress and CPM, have joined the BJP, which is in power at the Centre.

The development was confirmed on Monday by BJP state unit chief Rahul Sinha, who held a series of meetings with the representatives of various parties in Lodhashuli, Gopiballavpur, Nayagram and Mohanpur in Jangalmahal area on Sunday and facilitated their entry in his party.

Among the prominent ones who had switched their loyalties to the BJP are Antara Bhattacharjee from CPM who was a West Midnapore zilla sabhadhipati when a peak panchayat physique in a district was underneath control of a Marxists.

The zilla parishad was ruled by a CPM faction in 2013, when Trinamool Congress won elections. Bhattacharjee’s residence in Pingla was allegedly attacked by the Trinamool Congress activists during 2013 panchayat polls.

Another heavyweight to have joined BJP along with his supporters is Ashok Senapati from the Trinamool Congress.

Some activists from Jharkhand Party also joined BJP during Sinha’s revisit to a area that was once a Maoist stronghold. “This was my initial revisit to Jangalmahal after the Lok Sabha polls and we have got extensive response from thousands of activists who were really willing to join us. However, we are not welcoming everybody into the party and verifying their credentials,” Sinha said.

Meanwhile, a BJP delegation from Delhi led by MP Balbir Punj visited Ilambazar in Birbhum district on Sunday and met the family members of Rahim Sheikh, a minority leader of party who was allegedly murdered by Trinamool activists on June 7.

16th May onward joining BJP is on the surge. This development has one positive aspect and one negative too. The BJP's foundation will be strengthened no doubt but at the same time a lot of fair weather birds will join the party too. This happened when TMC won in 2010. A lot from this bunch have no morality and they will leave the party again if BJP fails to do well in the assembly. If BJP really wants to bring a change in bengal politics it should be careful enough not to repeat the mistakes TMC made before.
I find it necessary for the BJP top brass if they conduct a scrutiny process for these newcomers, force them to go through a series of interviews where their ideological values go through a check otherwise it won't be long enough before these recruits make the party foundation weak.

Now there is a vacuum in Bengal politics, TMC turned out to be a party "Of the GUNDAS, by the GUNDAS, for the GUNDAS" (as expected), and they are ably challenging Mulayam & Akhilesh's Samajwadi Party for the crown of "Gunda Party", CPM is a spent force of old people with outdated view of economics & development (though I think Buddhadeb's 1st term was one of the best in Bengal after a long time, but that couldn't be sustained because of mindless dirty opposition politics of Mamata), BJP should capitalize this situation, they are already emerging as the leading party in urban areas. However, BJP needs to improve its base drastically, otherwise the present political calculations will end up helping TMC by dividing opposition votes between BJP & CPM, like what happened in the last Loksabha election.

Now BJP can gain a lot in Bengal if they really focus their resources here. LOHA GARAM HAI, MAAR DO HATORA!!

From what I know, most should be kicked out, the quality of the regular cadre from the East is really pathetic. Most are corrupt goons. No offence.

West Bengal at present is being ruled by a bunch of thieves, murderers, street goons and good weather "intellectuals".
The lady who directed George Orwell's animal firm during left regime is now silent on various unjust arrests and illegal detention in this regime.
IAS officers are standing like school boys before murderers and ministers are advising subjects to chop off limbs and rape the opponents. Hard to believe that this place once had a CM like Bidhan Chandra Ray.

To be honest, current leaders of Bengal BJP is not up to the mark, BJP needs more assertive leaders in Bengal.
