Nahid Afrin is a young Assamese Muslim singer from a town called Biswanath Chariali. She participated in the singing talent show Indian Idol Junior 2015. She got invited by Sonakshi Sinha ( who was one of the three judges ) to sing for a forthcoming film Akira.

But sadly Nahid was confronted by a fatwa made by some 40+ mullahs against her singing career. But Nahid, though disheartened by this "fatwa" said that she wouldn't abandon her singing talent that had been gifted to her by God.

You are spot on, but i must add that she found support from all quarters including our Assamese singers like Zubeen Garg and Angarag Papon Mahanta, and the Bollywood and even Pakistani doyens. I am all for people making life choices as long as they are not physically or emotionally coerced into it.

Well, those mullahs got nothing on her. They are like those random gau rakshaks who jump into fights that are not theirs..

Agree, we have swayed to the tunes of 'ae mere watan ke logo' and also sway to the notes of 'babuji zara dhire chalo' as people (I know, no comparison, but these guys need no seriousness beyond a point)... We love and revere our singers and more so, female singers.. All these religious choudharis can suck their own or each others' thumbs (and, i am repeating myself)...
