I don't have a military background, but I will try to respond nonetheless. For border guards, who will be encountering the initial Intruders most likely armed with mortars and small arms only, but no heavy armored vehicles, I think the trenches are still relevant as defensive position against infantry.

Even if the Intruders bring in heavy armour, the trenches can be effectively used to place anti tank infantry units.

Just Google US military trench in Iraq, and you will see lots of pictures. They are digging the trenches for defensive positions. Which is exactly what BGB will do as well.

By the way, these are not trenches. These have been dug and grasses were turfed over them in order to trap the intruding enemy in them. Trenches are long and zigzag almost continuous for hundreds of yards where the defenders hide from enemy attacks and fire their weapons.

These are called Booby Traps.

Funny isn't that Muktis failed to takeover even a single upazila during course of some 8 months, and their daddy was forced to fight,when he saw that Brave Muktis won't succeed.
