Bentley has revealed its first ever SUV, with a top speed of 301 kilometres per hour, officially making it the fastest, as well as most luxurious sports utility vehicle (SUV) in the world.
The new model will compete with top-end Range Rovers as well as other upcoming SUVs such as the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Lamborghini Urus.

The Bentayga is powered by a twin-turbocharged engine which is a newer version of the 6.0-litre W12 engine that can be found in Bentley’s Continental GT coupé.
It produces 600bhp and 600lb ft of torque, enough to reach 62mph in 4.1 seconds. On test driving the Bentayga, it was found to be adept for off-road travel.
The new engine is able to switch between direct and normal fuel injection, enabling the car to use the relevant technology aptly and consequently provide a more efficient, responsive and smooth performance.

Further, the engine also comes equipped with cylinder-on-demand technology, enabling it to run effortlessly on six of its 12 cylinders when cruising to keep fuel consumption and emissions minimum.
However, despite the technology, the Bentayga will have high fuel consumption, averaging only 22.1mpg whilst emitting 292/km of CO2.
Bentley reveals that the new car has undergone the most comprehensive development programme in the company’s history, spanning across five continents.
It took 400 laps of the challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife test track in Germany, as the engineers fine-tuned the chassis of the car.

The SUV features cabin controls for selecting the driving surface as well as hill descent system that makes it easier for the car to come down a steep passage.
When first launched, the Bentayga will be available with four or five seats, with the interior finished in opulent leather, with a choice of seven different veneers. A seven-seat option in the car is also in the works with diesel and plug-in hybrid versions.
Although the Bentley SUV has taken the top spot for fastest SUV, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S is not far behind. However, Bentley is the more luxurious vehicle between the two.
