Former Prime Ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif are the two most influential politicians in Pakistan, according to a US newspaper's list.
Bhutto and Sharif's parties, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) respectively, have also topped the list of the strongest political outfit of the country.
The USA Today list further shows that Benazir also emerged as the winner in the category of President Pervez Musharraf's most likely challengers.
Despite vilification by both the Sharif and Musharraf governments, Benazir remains 'the most popular democratic politician in Pakistan' with a 'large, well-organised political party,' notes the paper.
The third on the list is Imran Khan while Jamaat-i-Islami's Qazi Hussain Ahmad occupies sixth place, the Dawn reported.
Surprisingly, suspended Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and his lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan have occupied the fourth and fifth places respectively.
53-year-old Benazir's popularity in Sindh and among secular middle-class Pakistanis has remained unaffected despite the military rule in the country for the last eight years.
Her relationship to 'the executed populist' Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto remains her main political strength, says the paper.
