DHAKA: Bangladeshi police officers will hit the streets a little smarter and more confident after a beautician was called in to give grooming tips to new recruits.

Kaniz Almas Khan, who owns beauty parlours in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka and in Thailand, was asked by police chiefs to give lessons to 140 new recruits at an academy in the northwest of the country, she said on Monday.

“I was surprised to be asked but it’s great that people are becoming more conscious about their appearance,” she said.

“Male officers were just as keen as female officers, if not more, on looking good. They wanted advice on everything from colours they should be wearing to the type of perfume that would suit them.” The chief of the Sharda Police Academy in northwest Bangladesh, Mazharul Haque, said the project would boost officers’ confidence as well as improve their appearance.

“This is the first time in the academy’s history we have invited a top beautician to offer us lessons on grooming and presentation. It’s very important for a police officer how he presents himself to the people,” he said.—AFP

Police officers start training under new syllabus
Dhaka, Aug 25 (bdnews24.com)—Huge changes in the syllabus police officers study have begun to be implemented, with a batch of 137 BCS police cadres attending additional classes in criminal psychology and human rights among other new subjects.

"Some 137 Bangladesh Civil Service police cadres are receiving the training for the first time under this newly changed syllabus," Md Majharul Huq, vice-principal of Sarda Police Academy, told bdnews24.com.

Huq said a raft of changes had been made to the officer's training module and syllabus to keep pace with modern advances, as well as make them more aware of their demeanour and appearance.

"Some new subjects have been included in nine new training modules, including the Police Act, criminology, criminal psychology, research methodology, aspects of the common law and human rights," said Huq.

He said other new subjects were model theories of crime prevention, how to utilise research and crime prevention techniques.

"Initiatives will be taken to employ adequate personnel to teach the police officers these new subjects. Dhaka University teachers will give them language classes and computer training," Huq said.

He said Rajshahi University teachers will give classes on law and social sciences, while BUET teacher have already started giving lessons on traffic and road safety issues.

"Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University teachers are giving lessons on research and the Criminal Act," he said.

Huq said senior police officers had also begun giving the trainees lessons on administration and management.

"Recently the beautician, Kaniz Almas, gave them lessons on attire and deportment," he added.

I got one thing to utter:WTF????
If they want to look good make them do it with their own money.

After the improvements of the newly recuited police officers, the govt should also see how to improve the quality of those customs and immigration officers who work in the Zia international Airport. All these pot-bellied, ill-dressed, unshaved, untidy and bettle-leaf chewing officers should be trained in the same manner as the police officers have been.

In lieu of all our recent economic developments, these airport people present only a BD of the past that was once so infamously described by Henry Kissinger. These airport officials are shame to any country.

Bangladesh police authorities want their officers to be presentable
New police recruits in Bangladesh have been given advice on how to smarten up their act.

One of the country's leading beauticians has been giving them advice on what to wear and how to look.

The idea, the deputy head of Bangladesh's top police academy says, is to turn this batch of new recruits into "world class police leaders".

They have received lessons in grooming, personal hygiene, physical fitness, skin-care, diet and dining etiquette.

Kaniz Almas Khan, who runs a chain of smart beauty parlours in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, as well as in Thailand, was invited to show the new recruits how to wear clothes in matching colours.

'Smell is important'

She also gave the 140 men and women a lesson in how to choose a good perfume or aftershave.

I was surprised to be asked, but it's great that people are becoming more conscious of their looks

Kaniz Almas Khan
She was quoted by the French news agency AFP as saying that the male officers were just as keen as the female officers, if not more, on looking good.

"I was surprised to be asked, but it's great that people are becoming more conscious of their looks," she said.

Mazharal Haque, vice principal of Sharda Police Academy in Rajshahi, said: "We invited a top beautician to give lessons on personal grooming to the newly recruited police officers so they could become world-class police leaders."

The idea was to make them fit to serve in United Nations peacekeeping missions anywhere on the planet.

The beautician had "taught them what type of perfume they will use because smell is important", the vice principal added.

"It is important for our officers to be presentable whether in uniform or civilian dress."
