BD wants Korea to invest more

DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni categorically said that Bangladesh and South Korea are bound by time-tested friendship that span over diverse areas of mutual ‘interest’.

The minister came up with the observation when the newly appointed South Korean Ambassador Lee-Yun Young called on her at her office on Monday afternoon.

The Foreign Minister appreciated continued Korean cooperation in the areas such as human resources development, IT, power & energy, infrastructure development etc.

She made particular mention of the on-going cooperation offered through Korean International cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Employment Permit System (EPS) to train and develop Bangladesh manpower and expected that the cooperation would increase manifold in the coming years.

She also expected that Korean investment will continue to grow in Bangladesh. She thanked the Korean Government for offering Duty and Quota Free Access to Bangladeshi Products and requested for granting DFQF access to some 41 additional items, to help take bilateral trade to a new height.

The Korean Ambassador said in reply that his country deeply admires the impressive strides that Bangladesh has recently made in social and economic sectors.

He said his country is intent on bolstering cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and human resources development with Bangladesh.

He added that Bangladesh these days is often cited as one the most promising economies. Resonating the Foreign Minister’s sentiment, the envoy said the two sides should work together to celebrate the upcoming 40th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in a colourful way reflecting upon the decision of the leadership of the two countries to mark 2013 as the `Bangladesh-Korea Friendship year’.

This is really a good news for economy of Bangladesh and also for the people of Bangladesh.

Thanks
Farabi
