BD, Chinese cos sign contract to produce motorcycle parts locally

An agreement was signed Sunday between Runner Automobiles Ltd of Bangladesh and Dayang Motorcycle Co Ltd of China on technical collaboration with a view to producing all parts of motorcycle locally.
Under the agreement, the Chinese company will provide all sorts of technological supports to the local firm. Besides, Runner Automobiles would market their products under the brand name of 'Runner Dayang' in the local market.
State Minister for the Ministry of Industries Omor Faruk Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at the agreement signing ceremony where Chief Executive Officer of Dayang Motors Co Ltd Liu Bo Thao and Group Chairman of Runner Automobiles Ltd Mozammel Hossain were present, among others.
"The new agreement would pave our way for going for production of locally designed motorcycle with all locally produced parts including engine," Moazammel Hossain said.
Presently, no local company assembles motorcycles with local design and locally produced engine. Besides, almost all other parts of motorcycles are also imported.
Mr Hossain also said if the government formulates a long-term policy with assurance of financial support to the industry, then the country would be able to earn over Tk 300 billion through export of motorcycle instead of importing.
Liu Bo Thao said with the signing of the deal, 'Runner Dayang' would become the most popular brand in Bangladesh soon.
"Besides, spare parts would also be available in the local market following the inking of the agreement," Thao added.
However, Omor Faruq Chowdhuty hailed both the parties for their innovative ideas and assured them of all types of support to such initiatives for a better future of the country.
Runner started its journey from the year 2000 through marketing Dayang and Freedom brand motorcycle in the country. Later on the company had initiated to produce certain parts of motorcycle locally and assemble them in combination of other imported parts.
