There is already a thread about India maybe bidding but I think BD should also get in and try to capture the 2036 Olympics.

Like S Korea annouced its arrival into a dynamic and fast growing economy by hosting the 1988 Olympics, so BD can do the same if it won and then hosted the 2036 Olympics.

Apart from some sports facilities that would required to be built, pretty much have all the other infrastructure would be in place by 2036 anyway as part of BD's ongoing infrastructure buildup

The overall cost should run into the low 10s of billions of US dollars, which will not be a problem for a country that will have a decade from the mid-2020s to build all the infrastructure and get everything ready. A lot of the infrastructure can then be used for the people of BD for leisure and serious competition.

BD has plenty of things going for it as a stable, tolerant and the fastest growing large developing economy in the world and the Olympics can showcase its emergence as a modern country.

Given Bangladesh’s current sporting infrastructure - it will cost at least 200 billion to host the games.

All the money will go to foreign companies because we only have a Madrasa educated workforce.

India has a good chance and can do most work by itself - so money will stay in India. And we can benefit by supplying the clothing and all the tatt!

BD will have all the infrastructure apart from the sporting facilities by 2036 anyway.

You need one large stadium that will admittedly cost billions but each of the rest of the facilities will be in the hundreds of millions of US dollars max.

You are confusing with Qatar that had to build like 7 new stadiums for the world cup and that is one of the major reasons they spent 200 billion+. Also they needed to build a lot of other infrastructure as they are a tiny country with something like 300,000 citizens and 3 million in total.

They also built the following with costs that will not apply to a much larger country like BD with well developed infrastructure by 2036:

1. A new city at a cost of 45 billion US dollars - LOL
2. Doha Metro - 36 billion
3. Airport Expansion - 15.5 billion
4. Port Expansion - 7.4 billion

All the 4 massive costs above will not apply to BD in 2036 by natural infrastructure growth anyway and so let Hasina be bold and at least bid for it.

BD in 2036 hosting the Olympics would be like a coming out party!

PS - BD companies will be supplying a lot of the construction materials and labour for the sporting infrastructure and getting more experience to boot.

And you will be the sole athlete, organizer, and umpire for all events. Wise people do not show their poor loin clothes in public. Millions of dirty pictures of the real-life BD will be viral and everyone will spit on the country's reality.

However, you are pretending BD is another Singapore or Qatar. But, check the reality below:

Do you want me to send many more pictures of your dirty loin clothes spreading over the country, Idiot? Don't say No. Let people see what our successive govts have made Bd into. It is a country of slums where people have no jobs because of non-industrialization and have to flee the country to support their families.

Not in 2036 but in 2136. No point of hosting Olympic when Bangladesh can not even win a Bronze medal in Olympic. At first we need to make our athletes capable of winning medals in Olympics. Forget about hosting, can you imagine what a laughing stock Bangladesh would become around the world if it bid for hosting a Olympic but never won any medals from it?

Just hosting the Olympics will change the way that sport is seen in BD.

Some of the required facilities may be ready many years before the actual event is held.

Every country that has hosted the Olympics has done much better at their own event than when they were not the organisers.

Maach baath Bangali - not the diet of athletes!!!

IMO BD should make a bid for 2029 Islamic Games. This is some thing that I think BD should do first. I mean BD dont have any experience yet in hosting big sport event like Asian Games. Step by step, and from Islamic Games in 2028, BD can try to make a bid for Asian Games in 2040. Asian Games for 2032 and 2036 have been given to Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

BD current youngsters are more health conscious than older generations.

A 2036 Olympics would be 11 years away from when the decision is announced in 2025 and so plenty of time for them to get ready and win medals in 2036.

@Indos - Sounds sensible to go for smaller games first but BD needs to be bold.

All forecasters predict BD to be in solid “middle-income” territory by 2036. That would be an ideal time to show the world the modern BD with world-class infrastructure. BD needs to show its modern image to the world and the Olympic Games are the best advertising for this.

People with expertise from hosting previous Olympic Games can be hired as outside experts to help BD organise the games.

Afterall, what expertise did Qatar have for any major events before hosting the World Cup recently? Nothing and shows where there is a will, there is a way.
