BBC declares Pakistani skin whitening creams illegal
Golden Pearl Cream and Stillman's Cream are among the list of products declared poisonous and illegal

Since the past few years, numerous people have been talking about how fairness creams are a form of racism. This is because not only do they make us feel that we need to be ‘white’, they teach us only fair people can be successful. Apart from making us conscious, these creams that are targeted towards women, also set impossible and unfair standards of beauty.
However, according to the recent revelations by BBC, these skin whitening products not only affect us psychologically, but can also cause great damage to our health.
According to a video by BBC, these creams include poisonous chemicals like hydroquinone and mercury which can cause organ failure and cancer. And guess what, among the list of illegal skin whitening creams are some Pakistani brands such as Golden pearl beauty queen, Faiza Beauty cream and the oh-so-popular Stillman’s Cream.
According to the report, 15 shops have been caught by the London Trading Standard for selling whitening creams, and were fined on average 11,000 pounds each. Some shop owners were even given suspended jail sentences.
“The courts are looking at this as a criminal activity as its poisoning someone for profit,” said says Cenred Elworthy in the video. “It’s not the kind of activity where people can think they can run a legitimate business and sell these kinds of products.”
All you ladies who turn to these creams to achieve a fair complexion, check out this video to find out how harmful these products are:
