.
THX has some good bass tests

Do you know the name the song in above video?

Three 6 Mafia -- Late Night Tip

a reliable song.....every time i play it i think my rear glass will shatter.

try this one:

Artist: Gorilla Zoe
Title: Juice Box

this is what it did to my trunk

sound may sound distorted in the video but it sounds much better in real life....my phone camera has a horrible microphone, cant capture low frequency sounds

Why's he banned, too much bass?? Anyways THX are good(home theater paradise). If you are seriously into bass stuffs, I would recommend bass simulators such as WinIsd. Has some good signal generators. If you are buying or assembling a subwoofer remember to check out the Fs parameters. Ideally 20-30hz are real shakers. At 35hz if the noise is too loud you'll break the glass. Ask if you have questions.

35s nothing yaar; i have Young Jeezy - Put On -- I modified that song to play at 30 hz

it didnt shatter my rear glass; though it became dangerously close. I could actually see a wave/ripple effect and i had to quickly put it down.

my box however is tuned to 34 hz; i built it in my garage to manufacturer specs. I plan to build another one with a port leading to the rear shelf of the car; might also add another 15'' though that will require an even bigger alternator, amp and wiring (1 gauge, from 4)

im a fan of the ''SPL'' --not sure why.

Good to know another bass freak's here. Seems you are into deep low's. My 12" subs fs is 30hz but because the box is tuned to 28hz I loss upto 4db SPL.. My home setups pretty clean though. 2x 10" high excursion sub fed with a Harman kardon. Goes down upto 26hz without any loss.

Few years back, heard a demo of a kenwood thx certified sub. 18" goes down as low as 18hz at 92db! They don make those stuffs anymore. Whats your amp by the way? Two 15" is awesome but I don think you'll be able to live inside :P

ohhh yes. My previous setup was 2 Kicker competition 10'' subs in a ported box. That was more mid-lows and mid range.

My subs actually arent great for mid range; but i have mac audio woofers with crossover which takes care of that. The lows on these Kicker Solobaric subs is beyond insane. They use the square design (as opposed to circle) and they push a lot of air.

how many u have, and what kind....which wiring are you using; amp; sealed or ported box

pretty legit.....im a bit more ''conventional'' for my indoor sound. I have logitech z5500s.

I'm trying to figure out how to hook up a car subwoofer to a standard home audio system. Issue is, power supply in home is 110V whereas car audio equipments take 12V. Also an issue of how to wire it, and what adaptors needed. I know it's been done.

I have another subwoofer (12'' Kicker Solobaric L7 - 1200 watts) which i am dying to put to some good use at home.

that is beyond obcene. Got a link to it

Whats your amp by the way?

Kicker KX1200.1 single channel amp for the subs

Alpine MRPF-300 amp for the speakers and components (mids+highs)

i have my gains set at only about 40% and it's still bloody loud. Every 2-3 weeks i have to change the bulbs in the back because they fuse, due to the vibrations.

actually, it's very impractical. It also annoys the cops. I got a noise violation citation in a residential area a couple months back. So one has to be wise about it.

in every day driving i keep it at reasonable levels; but sometimes i get hyper.

Well a single Kenwood Sub Ported box 1000watt bridged. 14 gauge(To retain audio quality) And some pioneers here and there, kenwood components at front for the mid, Alpine for power. Thinking of installing a DSP, then I'll go for MTX.
Obviously not on par with your system.:P

You need a 12 VDC power supply no big deal. But I wouldn recommend it, better off buying a THX certified amp.

Probably this one (THX SW-X1)but the one in the picture is 12".

Kenwood is under-rated. Buddy of mine has a kenwood 12'' in his BMW M5 --also a Kenwood 1000w amp; the thing hits very good. There are other factors to keep in mind. Newer cars --especially the higher end ones --have very good acoustics thanks to sound proofing and insulation.

are yours dual or single voice coil? 4 ohm or 2 ohm load?

dude you're pushing a good amount of power; you need to go 4 gauge. Your equipment will love you, and so will your alternator. If i were you; i'd make an extra ground.

get a 4 or 6 farad cap too; though it isnt so necessary...

i dont have much experience with MTX but it is a very respectable and one of the mainstream brands. The Thunder 9500s are very popular. Buddy of mine who i regularly meet up with has 4 MTX Jackhammer 12s in a Jeep Cherokee --4000 watts total (a bit more than double what i am pushing) and I had to escape from the car

I just couldnt handle it, it was too much bass pressure.

i want to do it just for the sake of being able to say ''i did it''

where can i get a 110V --> 12V converter for the amp?

Forgot to reply, totally punked into the game right now. Well theres two way, either get a car battery charger which converts ac to DC or you can go for the PSU unit of your PC to power up the amp(though you'll get lesser current).

And thanks regarding the gauge info, I'll change it to 4.

voila.

first option's a possibility.....as long as im getting a consistent 12-14V thats all i care about.

you're pushing what, about 1000 watts. 4 gauge is the way to go. It will put less pressure on your alternator as it tries to recharge the battery; with thinner wires, there's less electrical flow. In fact, in extreme cases it could even cause your amp to clip when volumes really high.

4 gauge wires -- you may also notice more power from your system

make sure you have a good ground area for the ground wire going to the amp

so many different factors matter when building a system for good sound......have fun, post videos too
