BRAHMANBARIA, March 27, 2015 (BSS) - State Minister for Science and Technology Yafesh Osman today said the generation of electricity at Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant will begin in 2021.

The state minister said the construction of the plant will begin in December this year.

The state minister made the remark while visiting the progress of construction of four thermal power plants with 1250-megawatt capacity at Ashuganj here.

He said apart from the Ruppur project the government has plans to construct more nuclear power stations in the country.

Power and Energy Secretary Monowar Khan said the government has taken initiatives to construct a coal-based power station at Ashuganj along with gas-run power plants.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Abul Kalam Azad, Science and Technology Secretary Khondoker Asaduzzaman, Additional Science and Technology Secretary Dilip Kumar Basak, Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant Chairman Engineer Manirul Islam, Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Dr Mosharraf Hossain and other high officials concerned were presented on the occasion.

No, I mean if everything had gone well. Excluding the oppression part. You can see first initiative of Ruppur was done in 1961. And their Karachi power plant gone to operational in 1972. I said it before we had done mistake by joining west pak which lead us behind some 26 years.

Yes,I saw that.but it's small reactor.while PK will commission their first 1000MW reactor in 2020.If contruction goes as planned,Ruppur will commission in 2020 too,initial construction has started already for 2 years by now.AND general people don't know about it,but Bangladesh do have an small nuclear power station too for research purposes.

I hope the Bangladeshi planners are smarter than Pakistani ones and don't place it right next to their biggest city.

BD is not a big country by land any way so it will be some where near to city I guess

yes the "oppression" complaint would have been why didn't the Punjabi oppressors build a jute mill instead of 'wasting' existing jute money on nuclear plant. if you don't think you were independent as East Pakistan, you are even less independent as Bangladesh and you really belong to either of them.
