The Indian exchequer has witnessed a massive growth due to the tourism inflow from Bangladesh.

Disclosing this, officials in the Indian Tourism Ministry said that the country earned Rs 96.11 billion of foreign exchange through tourism in October 2015.

“Bangladesh accounts for the highest share of tourist arrivals in the same period, whereas tourist arrivals from Pakistan yielded the lowest,” a government official said.

The Ministry of Tourism compiles monthly estimates of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) on the basis of nationality-wise, port-wise data received from the Bureau of Immigration (BOI) and from Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) from tourism, on the basis of data available from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The data show that India recorded 1.7 percent growth in foreign tourist arrival in October 2015 over the same period in the previous year.

Bangladesh led the top 15 source countries in terms of FTAs during October. The statistics shows that Bangladesh recorded 15.22 percent, followed by USA 12.99 percent, UK 11.31 percent, Sri Lanka 3.69 percent, Germany 3.62 percent, Canada 3.58 percent, Australia 3.37 percent, Malaysia 3.03 percent, France 3.01 percent, Nepal 2.67 percent, China 2.55 percent, Japan 2.42 percent, Russia 2.03 percent, Singapore 1.65 percent, and Pakistan 1.59 percent tourist arrivals.

These top 15 countries account for 72.73 percent of total FTAs during October this year.

The Foreign Exchange Earning (FEEs) from tourism in terms of rupees in January-October 2015 was over Rs 1 trillion, with a growth of 2.5 percent as compared to the FEE of Rs 989.01 billion which saw a growth of 16.3 percent during January-October 2014 over January- October 2013.

“Several initiatives adopted by the government of India including relaxation on visa on arrival have also been contributing to the earnings from the tourism sector,” the official said.

Bangladesh has replaced the UK as the second highest source of foreign tourist arrivals in India in 2014

The number of tourists from Bangladesh went up to 942,562 in 2014 from 524,923 the previous year, according to Indian tourism ministry statistics.

In 2013, the number of tourist arrivals in India from Bangladesh was third highest after the US and the UK.

The US sent the highest number of tourists - nearly 1.2 million - to India in 2014.

Meanwhile, the total number of crossings only through Petrapole-Benapole land port immigration check post touched an all-time high of 1.2 million visitors in 2014.

I think half of the increase in exchequer has been contributed by yours truly via Dress and Jewelry purchases in Delhi for the significant other....

Bangladesh tourism suffers for being India locked country. Foreigners like to visit India and if they get time during visit of North East India, the most popular tourist destination after Kashmir and Taj Mahal some of them visit Cox's Bazar sea beach, virtually the only tourist spot of Bangladesh.

You can always convert a disadvantage to advantage. The entire bangladesh & west bengal can be marketed based on bengali food & culture. Take for example when ppl visit SEA, singapore,thailand,malaysia...etc gives multitude of options. Just by focusing on bangladesh you are failing to see the big picture.

We welcome Bangladeshi tourists. They are getting increasing purchasing power as their economy grows so India is a natural place to visit since its right next door and relations + cultural connections are good.

I foresee Bangladeshi tourists being the largest source of tourists to India very soon given the growth that is happening.

And Indian members need not worry, Bangladesh middle class has strong roots to their home country (thats where they have their jobs, families etc)...the illegal immigrants are mostly the poor and dispossessed who have run out of options and are drawn to the large economy of scale India has....and that stream was mostly from 10 - 20 years back (since India has clamped down on the border lately and conditions have improved noticeably in Bangladesh).

Indian High commision does not just hand out tourist visa to anyone either. They must have proof of their status, job, funds for travel, itinerary etc. India would have already taken measures if for some reason significant numbers of Bangladeshis enter but do not leave under tourist visa.

Middle class and their shopping trips?

Hates shopping trips. It's more fun backpacking thorough the countryside, mountains and wilderness.

Why do you always have to belittle Bangladesh every times?Cox's bazar is the only tourist spot? Did you forgot Sunradbans, Kuakata beach in Patuakhali, Rangamati,Bandarban hill station,UNESCO world heritage sites like Paharpur Vihara,Somepur Vihara,Bagherhat 60 dome mosque? There are also sites like Wari Bateswar,Mahasthangar archeological site,Lalmai hills in Comilla Maynamati Royal complex with Buddhist Vihara. We have a number of Eco tourism park like Dulahazra safari park,Lauachara Jatiyo Uddan,Sitakunda eco park,Chaunati wildlife sanctuary,Ram sagar wildlife sanctuary,Teknaf game reserves. We have beautiful islands like St.Martins,Nijhum Dwip,Maheskhali island which if managed could be famous tourist spot.I didn't even entered Sylhet division, here one can find hundreds of Tea estate, waterfalls, forest, gentle hillls, there are world class resorts like Grand Sultan palace,DuSai etc in Sylhet. You can enjoy river cruise along hundreds of our revers, there are vast Chalan bill,Tanguar haor measuring hundreds of square km. along with many other Haors where you can enjoy breath taking natural scenery,Bard watching, fishing.Do I have to say more?

there is little to see in bd apart from sundarbans from a tourist's point of view.. cox's bazar has just a beach, but not the infra associated with a beach life.

Indian member worry because most of them are bigot hindutva with zero intelligence.Otherwise they would have thought how can country having only 1/8 of population of India can be capable of significantly alter the hindu demographic majority in India when their population growth is no higher then ours? It's like saying Nepal will overwhelm Bangladesh with their hindu population when Nepal have 2.5 crore and BD have 16 crore population. But brainless Bharati hindutva will scare the Bangladeshi muslim juju to the detrimental of their physical and mental health.Funny this is the main political issue in god forsaken assam, west Bengal and whatever itchy-bitchy bharati state.:sick:

Actually 80% of the tourist dont pefer eco-tourism. Most tourist actually visits cities and I dont think Dhaka is where a person will prefer to stay for his holidays.

Sunderbans is considered Indian forest even though 60% is in Bangladesh. We only have Cox's Bazar sea beach. Sylhet and Chittagong hilly areas are tourist attractions but these are not popular destinations. Only Cox's Bazar is popular.
