Indian police arrested Shoilen Biswas, the chief of Bangladeshs outlawed New Biplobi Communist Party (NBCP), from Purulia Bazar of Indian state of West Bengal on Tuesday night, police officials said in Dhaka yesterday.
They said that acting on a tip-off, a team of Bongaon police station of West Bengal conducted a raid at the bazaar at about 8pm and arrested Biswas.
He was being interrogated at the police station, the sources said.
Biswas was the second in command of Mrinal Bahini, a top terrorist gang in south-western region of Bangladesh. He fled to India during the Operation Clean Heart in 2003. However, he used to come to Bangladesh frequently and stay at the house of one Sudhangsu Roy in Jessore where he demanded extortion money from a businessman of Khulna.
