Bangladesh works to make March 25 as Intl Genocide Day: Momen​

DHAKA, Sept 22, 2022 (BSS0 - Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen has said Bangladesh is working for getting recognition of March 25 as the International Genocide Day by all the countries in the world.

"The Genocide of Bangladesh committed in 1971 by the Pakistani military is one of the most heinous crimes in human history ... we do not know of another instance of such barbarism of such intensity and mayhem," he said.

The foreign minister made the remark through a video message at a seminar titled International Seminar titled 'Remember and Recognize: The Case of Bangladesh Genocide of 1971' which was held at the Human Rights Museum, Winipeg in Canada on Wednesday, according to a press release received here today.

The High Commission for Bangladesh in Canada and the Bangabandhu Centre for Bangladesh Studies (BCBS) in Canada, Liberation War Museum, Bangladesh, Genocide Studies Centre, University of Dhaka, Refugees Resilience Centre and Rotary Club Canada jointly organized the daylong seminar on remembering and recognition of the case of Bangladesh Genocide.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen spoke from New York virtually as a special guest while Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada Khalilur Rahman and BCBS Chief Patron in Canada Dr. Kawser Ahmed gave introductory remarks.

Some members of the victim families of the Genocide also spoke at the Seminar.
Professor Dr. Nuzhat Chowdhury described the abduction of her father Dr. Alim Chowdhury by collaborators of Pakistan military, the Rajakars, and his subsequent brutal killing just before the independence of Bangladesh.

She explained the international politics behind the dilemma of getting Bangladesh Genocide recognised and urged for end to such realpolitik.

Dr. Towheed Reza Noor, son of Sirajuddin Hossain, described his father's abduction and killing. Martyr Mr. Sirajuddin Hossain was a prominent journalist.

He described how the Bengali intellectuals were made victim of genocide committed by Pakistani military.

No doubt.... but it does seem like an irrelevance with all the pressing issues BD is facing.

This imbecile is hopelessly out of his depth floundering from one crisis to next of his own making and devoting time to issues that has no practical benefit.

He should be building an alliance against Myanmar, building links with US, EU, GCC, China, Quad, Asean, SCO, OIC, D7, AU, Lacea, canvassing for BD manpower and exports, getting more UN engagement for our uniformed services and generally increasing BDs exposure in the global scene.

Harping ad nauseum about 71 has very little value. What real purpose does this serve, i want him to project a confident and purposeful BD not an eternal victim narrative.

Now if this brings in investment or provides BD with leverage in any scenario i would be more supportive. Its just screaming in our own echo chamber.

So what happened on March 25th? Was this the day that Mr Momen’s A$$ was violated by FC Pashtuns in 1971?

And what came out of that was a Black Cat an active poster on a Pakistani forum as he is still looking for his daddy!

If I take a Freudian interpretation of why so many BDs are so active on a Pakistani forum, the only conclusion I can reach is that they all looking for their long lost daddies.

That guy has problems, so does the AL govt. But it's an important issue. It's been too long and the delay is unacceptable.

Not everything can be linked to monetary value. You love your family and children, will you sell them if there is good money to be made?

If everything was about money then there would not be many nations as nobody would care about anything that doesn't have a monetary value, the whole world would be one state.

The quest for alliance (whether required or not), the investment etc has it's own domain and historic matters that are important to a nation have their own domain. We don't need to park one to work on the other. There is enough human resource and funding to look after both.

Absolutely, the genocide in East Pakistan perpetrated by West Pakistan is an extremely important event to Bangladesh, and their main point of contention with Pakistan. The brutal crackdown against 3,000 30,000 300,000 3,000,000 3 trillion too many people of Bengal was completely un-Islamic (immoral). One day, when Pakistan has capable leadership (hopefully without a repeat of Op Searchlight), a joint commission would be established to ascertain the facts from fiction and propaganda and arrange reparations and a public apology.

For the time being, Pakistan would be wary of India using their Hasina puppet government only to malign Pakistanis

My main point i failed to emphasise on in the earlier post. What i intended to state is what is the point of harping on about 71 ad nauseum within our own echo chamber. Why is the FM not talking about this with representatives of others countries.

Everyone in the meeting is BD, nothing would be achieved by preaching to the Choir. FM needs to do his job and talk and engage with global stakeholders and audience.

If BDs don’t like what I wrote, than they should be careful about what they post on this forum.
