Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said Bangladesh would observe a one-minute blackout on the night of March 25 in memory of the history’s worst brutality carried out by the Pakistani Army on the “Black Night” of March 25, 1971.

“The government has taken a decision to observe a one-minute blackout programme on March 25 from 9:00pm to 9:01 pm,” he told newsmen after a coordination meeting held at the Home Ministry’s Conference room here.

The minister said the coordination meeting was held to discuss various issues as to how to observe the genocide day “Gonohattya Dibosh” on March 25 and the Independence Day on March 26 peacefully.

During the blackout programme, he said, the power supply would be suspended from 9:00 pm to 9:01 pm across the country. “We will observe this blackout programme only to recall the horror of March 25 night, unleashed by the Pakistani barbaric army on the eve of the War of Liberation,” Khan added.

The home minster said the government has undertaken all measures to ensure tight security at Savar National Memorial and also in the capital city and its adjacent areas on the day. “Members of the law enforcement agencies have been asked to ensure security on march 25 and March 26,” he said.

Earlier, the Jatiya Sangsad during its 14th session unanimously adopted a resolution declaring March 25 as the Genocide Day.

I hope they don't shut down national gird and power station for that.
Also make sure no women of your family stays out at that time.
Obviously critical places will be out of this blackout. Hospital, air port and some other places will not be part of it I believe.

For women thing, I don't believe 1 minute will put much danger to them. If any women in such a risk then she is already at risk with or without this one minute blackout. And Bangladesh is not like India. Also BD is not like some latin American countries, where a few minutes blackout is enough for the criminal gangs/Drug curtails to do big and daring operation or other anarchy.

Lakh di lanat ... I wish and hope the blackout turns to be a permanent. Keep mourning on something that never happened.

Dude, just need to read sources from US that supported Pakistan during 1971.
AL may be using 1971 tragedy but this does not mean bad things did not happen.
If it was up to me, as long as Pakistan makes a full apology for 1971 unreservedly, then that should be the end of the matter and we can move on.

You are never gonna get any apology. Blackout your whole country, cry a river, build a bridge and get over it.

Pakistan needs to engage with the fastest growing 100 million+ population economy for it's own interest.
No apology then BD cannot start normal relations. No self-respecting nation would act otherwise.

This is something very clever done by the AL govt. to force the entire country to talk and think about the events of 1971 in that night. This type of observation, even if BNP come to power will not be able to roll back.Otherwise they will be accused as traitor and disrespecting the martyrs. This is a self reinforcing cycle.

 And we should record it and hand it over to Hassina so that every time she has a ting for another apology she should play the record because it is boring to repeat something which is already fulfilled. Though it should be BD which should apologise for terrorism against own country men

ok & Don't overestimate yourselves!

160 million population with the fastest growing 100 million+ economy.
BD has already surpassed Pakistan in GDP/Capita from only 50% a decade ago.
Watch BD over the next generation.
Pakistan apologies as a state fully or no BD government will establish full relations.

Nah....they good. CPEC will make them rich not to mention America pays them a lot to allow drone strikes. Just google how much aid America gave them in last decade. That's why their whole country trembled after Trump tweeted about them. They will either force themselves on America or China claiming to be their best buddy.
