Bangladesh releases RFP for MALE UAV

The Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) has released a request-for-proposals (RFP) for an unmanned aerial system (UAS) for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations.

The UAS is to comprise of a medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), ground control station (GCS), sensor subsystems and air-to-surface munitions.

“BAF has identified the need for UAV for … [ISR] to meet future challenges and … to fulfill the requirement of the Forces Goal 2030,” the BAF stated, adding, “Suitable UAV was an outstanding requirement since the advancement of defense technology and its future implication in BAF.”

In its RFP, the BAF is requiring the UAV to have a minimum cruise speed of at least 140 km/h and a loiter speed capped at 140 km/h (or lower). The UAV must have a maximum speed of 200 km/h or more and a flight ceiling of approximately 20,000 ft, if not higher.

With a minimum payload of 120 kg across three hardpoints, the UAV is to have a range of 1,000 km. If undertaking an ISR mission, the UAV must have a minimum endurance of 15 hours. When armed with air-to-surface munitions (through two of three hardpoints), the endurance must be at least nine hours.

In terms of the communication data-link between the GCL and UAV, the BAF is requiring that the data-link have a minimum range off 200 km. The bidder must also include available electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR), synthetic aperture radar with ground-moving target-indication (SAR/GMTI) and precision-guided air-to-surface munitions (i.e. air-to-ground missile and precision-guided bomb).

Dhaka is implementing a wide-ranging modernization effort of its armed forces. Bangladesh’s active bids include, among others, 8 to 12 new multi-role fighters, two anti-submarine warfare helicopters, a new 4×4 light armoured vehicle platform and, most recently, a MALE UAV.

Notes & Comments:

The specified UAV will provide the BAF the ability to form a persistent ISR coverage net with time-sensitive targeting and targeted-strike capabilities. It could provide an important boost for its border control and asymmetrical operations efforts without having to commit costlier platforms, such as fighter aircraft.

Based on the BAF’s requirements, the leading UAV contenders would likely come from China and Turkey.

In the latter, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) can offer the Anka, which has a payload of 200 kg, service ceiling of 30,000 ft and endurance of 24 hours. TAI can also include Aselsan and Roketsan sensors and air-to-surface munitions, respectively, providing a complete package to the BAF.

The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) can offer several options, such as the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) CH-4 and the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group (CAIG) Wing Loong II. The CH-4 and Wing Loong II have a payload of 345 kg and 400 kg, respectively, and endurance of 40 hours and 32 hours, respectively. AVIC can also leverage a portfolio of precision-guided air-to-ground weapons and EO/IR and SAR/GMTI equipment. CASC has also begun marketing the CH-5, its largest MALE UAV with a payload of 1,200 kg and endurance of 60 hours.

I suspect one is for familiarisation before follow on purchase dude.

Please view things beyond the prism of politics.

I have faith in our people to protect our sovereignty from both BAL and BNP spectrum. Please do not let your emotion take you off on a unproductive path brother.

For all our fault we are making progress. Our democracy is not in good shape and there are faults a plenty. But with all that take heart.... we are 160m patriotic people well equipped to face the challenges that future will bring us in-sha-Allah.

In the words of Jinnah on A.K.Fuzlul Huq ..... when the tiger arrives the lamb must give way....

We are the inheritors of Sher-e-Bangla.... have faith in our people and nation... beyond the cosmetic bickering of our politicians there beats a nation whose heart is pure iron.

for deterrence. It's right that govt don't like to give strong reply against those aggression but what do want to do about refugee crisis and boarder killing?? Go to war?? And cost the whole country's economy?? Clearly that's a stupid idea. And all countries modernize their forces sometime and many of holds strong military power, doesn't mean they are always itching for war. If like war so much then go to USA, Israel, Saudi, Myanmar, Pakistan, North Korea. They will be happy to see you. And I always find it stupid and funny when some people like you label UN mission as mercenary job and cry about it when other countries sends their forces too. Guess why itches you to see our forces bringing foreign income and other countries praises during peace time. And AL at least doing something for the military as they before too during previous time in 90s, we all know what BNP did for military and country. Blaming one party even though they are doing something than nothing makes you look like biased person. Another thing is they issued tender for one system which includes 3/4 aerial vehicle. And this is the first time BD buying UCAV so it's logical to buy in small amount so you don't have to face huge problem if something goes wrong as Bangladesh faced problem with Turkish armored car. Same they are doing with other aircraft procurement and military equipment.

Dude dont deflect, admit you were wrong it was just another rumour. Look the trends are not great for that forum you mention and BAL hearthrob nonsense here in general (actual strike rate on these deals)....but you gotta concede on the off ones that happen to keep some credibility.

Your point 1 and 2 are similar and not logical.
If you believe Bangladesh is a lap dog of India then how about Canada? Why do Canada still maintain an armed force?
Under Awami league pro-india regime more equipments are being bought.
Under Bnp pro-pakistan regime more equipments were decommissioned.
Take a look at what Khaleda had done to Bns Bangubandhu, the Mig-29 contract and the Mig-29s themselves.
Back to your third point, yes it is plain stupid.
I still can't figure it out and still scratching my head.

BDMillitary admin himself has gotten fully retard.
First he said Bangladesh might buy Anka-S by giving hints like "Why would BAF chief visit Turkey?"
Then he believes it is confirmed that BD might buy something Chinese such as
CH-5.

.
It seems China and Turkey will join into a hard competition for Bangladesh drone tender. SatCom is not included into requirements of tender so TAI will most probably gave proposal with Anka-B MALE UAV with SAR GMTI and CATS EO payload with 30000ft altitude and 24h endurance.

Well Bangladesh did show interest in Turkish products at Defence & Security defence exhibition in Thailand this year and BAF Chief's visit got our hopes high. It's all just prediction. Same news about buying CJ-27 Spartan broke when BAF Chief visited Italy. These might come true as you can see Turkish Anka will compete against Chinese drone and our An-32's service life is going to end soon. Though i doubt Anka will make it cause it wasn't exported to any country where Chinese one made successful export ( tender mention minimum 3 countries). Plus their after sale service isn't good, heard the product quality didn't satisfy BD what ASEALAN delivered. CH-5 has more hard point, can carry more payload.

Back to your third point, yes it is plain stupid.

UCAV is way too premature for Bangladesh as initially reported when we don't have a larger UAV properly commissioned (and working). You need to gain at least a couple of years experience working with large UAV's before you go into operating armed UCAV's.

There is a thing called "training".

Contrary to your "faith" Awami league by its actions is no patriots and protector of sovereignty. That is fundamental flaw in closet awami fans.

No "we" - even the patriots in Bangladesh didi not own the the inheritance of Sher-e-Bangla. So, do not get carried away with emotional mambo jambo.

No one can have faith on awami indian dalals. And do not put awami league with people and all political party in same bracket; that is the famous awami template to hide their anti Bangladesh activities. If you are following that template you are just same as awami league anti Bangladeshi element, operating as wolf in sheep skin.
