Bangladesh has ranked 108th in the KidsRights Index, an annual global index which ranks how countries adhere to, and are equipped to improve children’s rights.

The KidsRights Index is an initiative of the KidsRights Foundation, in cooperation with Erasmus University Rotterdam in Netherlands.

It comprises of a total of 181 countries, all United Nations member states, that have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and for which sufficient data is available, who are ranked.

The index consists of five categories - Right to Life, Right to Health, Right to Education, Right to Protection, and Enabling Environment for Child Rights.

Bangladesh made an overall score of 0.672 to be placed at 108th, while Thailand ranked at 14th among South Asian countries, on the index published on their website.

Among other South Asian countries, Bhutan ranked at 94th , India ranked at 117th, Nepal at 136th and Pakistan ranked at 151th.

Iceland made the top position with an overall score of 0.967, followed by Portugal, and Switzerland.

Finland and Germany are in fourth, and fifth position respectively.

United Kingdom, however, ranked at 170th with a score of 0.383.

Afghanistan placed at the bottom with an overall score of 0.197.

My issue with these cosmetic surveys is that they do not take the all important health indicators into account that are the most crucial determinant of a kid's development and well being. Let us talk about the Infant Mortality Rate, Under 5 mortality rate, Neonatal Mortality Rate, Cause-specific child mortality rate and tally them with the prevailing Maternal Mortality Rates in the surveying countries. We then have to account for the implementation of WHO's Integrated Management of Childhood Illness provisions in various countries and follow up the results. Everything else will come after we have ensured a disease free infancy and childhood of our young ones.

Btw, the data of those indicators are in public donain, country wise lists are available too for the interested ones.

That's why these thread are called troll baits. No one from any country likes to hear their country is worse than some other guys country , once mudslinging starts the actual discussion never takes place. Its like trying to have a conversation in a room where everyone screaming at everyone else.

"Kidsrights" is an invented superficial pointless topic created by the European Liberal elites to feel good about themselves, something no one in Asia (rightfully so ) cares . I personally don't have any idea what data were researched ( also the inherent bias in the research and the bias of the researcher) nor do I wish to inquire about it.

Reality is how many kids in Asia you see committing crimes, in gangs, doing drugs, or engaging in highly risky promiscuous behaviors ? Very little. You see the same trend among the Asian American communities in the USA.

Child psychology is a big profession in the West, strangely almost unheard of in Asia. A whole bunch of these child psychologists are childless, do not want to have kids, and finally, certified nutcases themselves.

I sincerely doubt the clueless reporter who wrote this article ever bothered to think twice about the report before regurgitating it on the Tribune possibly verbatim.

You'd be surprised. In large parts of the country the education system is going to hell and child poverty is at 33% I think.

If you look at the website of of kidsrights.org you will see it is essentially geared at Asia and Africa. I can't speak for Africa, but in Asia kids are generally well taken care for unless you fall for the parameters defined by some white folks in Netherlands. Folks in Europe heck don't even want to have children as child care demands a substantial amount of time and effort for nurturing. This interferes with the effort to live life at the fullest.
