Bangladesh’s next national election will take place on Jan 7 next year, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has said.​

He announced the polls schedule in his address to the nation on Wednesday (Nov 15) evening.

The dates were fixed in an earlier meeting of the Election Commission (EC) in the afternoon.

Polls schedule​

Nov 30 is the last date for submitting nominations. The nomination papers will be scrutinised between Dec 1 and Dec 4.

EC will resolve appeals against orders of the returning officers from Dec 6 to Dec 15.

Meanwhile, electoral symbols will be distributed on Dec 18. The parties and candidates will be allowed to campaign from Dec 18 to 8am on Jan 5.


Meanwhile, in a briefing in the morning, the EC secretary said that there is a suitable environment for election.

The Election Commission has already given a roadmap for the preparation of the polls. Accordingly, the voter list is up-to-date, demarcation of boundaries, dialogue with the stakeholders, delivery of the rest of the voting equipment except the ballot to the district have been completed on time.

As per custom, the commission briefed the president about all the final preparations for the polls at Bangabhaban on Nov 9.

Can the announced date be changed?​

The EC can change the date of election given within that 90 days before the end of the term of Parliament. It has the power to do that if necessary. In that case, other related dates can also be changed by amending the schedule.

So the real game has started! If USA is really sincere, then it's consequences will be worse than any fascist have ever faced!

However if USA isn't sincere , and Hasina survived ( and Bangladeshi people just limit their activities creating tempest on Facebook ) then it will only justify the claim of India and Pakistan about our freedom war!

It will be proven that there was no freedom war , but it was only India Pakistan war of 1971 where Pakistan lost and India captured East Pakistan!

Now let's see how Bangladeshi people respond to the election declaration!

Will it be another 1988 resulting the doom of Ershad ,or will it be another 2014 ; that will literally make us 29th state of India!

Bangladesh to hold general election on January 7: official​

DHAKA: Bangladesh will hold a general election on January 7, the country’s chief election commissioner said Wednesday, a vote opposition parties have threatened to boycott fearing that it will be rigged.

“The 12th parliamentary election will be held on January 7 in 300 seats,” chief election commissioner Habibul Awal said in a live television broadcast, urging parties to hold talks to resolve the political crisis.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has led the South Asian country for the past 15 years and has been accused of ruling with an iron fist. She is seen as almost certain to return to power for a fourth time if the opposition boycott goes ahead.

Hasina has overseen impressive economic growth but Western nations have sounded the alarm over democratic backsliding and she has been accused by the opposition of vote-rigging at the past two polls.

Opposition parties have held major rallies calling for her to quit and for elections held by a neutral caretaker government.

Hasina has since launched a crackdown, with most of the top leadership of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) arrested as well as thousands of its supporters.

The BNP has said it will boycott the polls.

So too has Jamaat-e-Islami, the largest Islamist party in the 90 percent Muslim-majority country, and the Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB) party.

Thousands of IAB supporters marched on the election commission office in protest against the announcement on Wednesday.

Members said more than 10,000 people took part but police inspector Mizanur Rahman told AFP the numbers were around 3,000.

The election announcement came days after the US ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter Haas, sought meetings with leaders of the three major parties in a bid to break the political impasse.

Washington and the European Union have repeatedly called on the government to hold free and fair polls.

However as far I know Democratic and developed world doesn't revolve around one person unlike third world country Bangladesh which currently has turned into jomidari of Sheikh family!

So even if Trump wins , I don't think us policy isn't going to change if they want to dominate the world ; at least want to dominate a block!

If they change their policy , then China will be the only super power in the world and hundreds of years of western hegemony shall come to an end!

So IMHO, it's totally up to them! Hasina or Bangladesh is really no issue here!

If they can't throw out dictator and establish democracy even as eye wash ,they will be banished from the bay of Bengal once and for all!

And that will be the suicide of western bloc!

Trump is a special case. His policy would indeed change. It will be good if 1988 returns, even better if 1975 return. If she is gone, I want her entire family to be gone. Otherwise, there is no point.
