Bangladesh Minister Says Want To Invest In Bengal; Praises Mamata Banerjee​

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, "The Bangladesh economy is growing under Hasina's leadership. We want to invest in the state."​

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi praised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Kolkata:

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi Wednesday praised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said that his country is keen to make investments in the state.

Munshi, who was speaking at the inaugural session of Bengal Global Business Summit, 2022 here, said that Indian investors should reciprocate and invest in Bangladesh.

"Mamata Banerjee is leading here and Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh as the country's prime minister. The Bangladesh economy is growing under Hasina's leadership. We want to invest in the state," he said adding he had met the Bengal chief minister on Tuesday.

Bhutan Minister for Economic Affairs, Loknath Sharma said the country shares 300 km border with West Bengal, which has made remarkable progress in technology.

"Bengal means business and so do Bhutan ... 90 per cent of Bhutan's trade is with India. So we are inseparable," he added.

Actually this is part of BD's longer term plan to bring W Bengal, NE states, Nepal and Bhutan into BD's economic orbit.

India seems to have accepted that only by it's neighbouring states being part of the greater BD economic region will they ever escape poverty and develop.

Benefits for BD include access to hydroelectricity from Nepal and Bhutan and also a much larger "domestic" market to allow BD companies to sell their goods to. There is also a lost of forestry and other resources for BD's consumption in the NE states.

This is a win-win for BD, India, Nepal and Bhutan.

Modi and Hasina are working well for the uplifting of the living standards for 350 million people in the region and we should all encourage this development.

WEBEL can be roped in to provide talent to train Bangladesh youth in IT software support in all our IT parks...

I am not sure about this. On one hand, yes, hiring Indians to train IT support might be the most cost effective but on the other hand they have absolutely the most terrible reputations amongst clients and customers in the developed world - rife with operators who are dodgy, have indecipherable accents, poor quality assurance, etc. Don't want such attributes rubbing off on our folks.
Filipinos generally fare better so maybe we should look into hiring Filipino trainers.
