It is impossible to identify the ancient gangaridi from Ptolemy's account. But from the anonymous Periplus Maris Erythraei where the writer, a Greek merchant from Southern Egypt mentions a port called Gange in the first century AD from where fine Maslins were exported on the mouth of Ganga, it is possible that Gangaridai might be near to present day Dhaka. Just a guess though.

But archaeological evidence never suggest it a independent kingdom ever. Gangaridai could be a tributary/part of Nanda
empire who are from Bengal as well.

It is quite difficult to assume to be honest if Gangaridai was an independent sovereign or not.But from the extracts of Diodorus, Curtius or Plutarch, it is clear that they were quite convinced that Gangaridai was indeed a sovereign nation apart from Prasii or Praisoi (Prachi). The nation was armed with such a massive number of foot soldiers, horses or elephants that it is little difficult to assume them not to be independent and as tributary of the Nandas. Most possibly they enjoyed full scale sovereignty with a very active and prosperous port like Tamralipta on the mouth of Ganges.

How u know so much about the place

. . .
Isn't Tamralipti near to Kolkata.
It's nearly 100 kms away from Kolkata Center. But I am talking about another port on one of the mouths of Ganges,as mentioned by the unknown Greek merchant of Southern Egypt. Clearly the merchant was not talking about Tamralipta.

May be because its very close to my house :D

Are you trying to assert that Bangladeshi existed since ancient time. :omghaha::omghaha:

Yes. Any problems 8-)

The purpose of this thread is this region was always separate and intelligent races always ruled this area.

Journey starts from Gangariadai and ends in BD :p:

Bangladeshis are great people, carrying three national identities in last 100 years. :partay: Born an Indian, fed as Pakistani, died as Bangladeshi.
