In Bangladesh, 13-year-old Beezly Roy is preparing for her wedding.

She is to be married the following day.

Despite child marriage being illegal, it is not unusual. Almost a third of all Bangladeshi girls marry before they are 15 years old.

Their futures are not good - they face dangerous childbirth, even death, sexual violence and virtual slavery.

But help is coming from an unexpected source, a young man from a rural community who has made it his life's goal to end child marriages.

101 East travels to Bangladesh where young girls are being married off too young.

At least there is good awareness being created in Bangladesh. I am not sure of the rates here in India , but I am pretty sure the reportage is poor....also attempts at awareness are often met with abstract oddities like 'tradition' ,'culture' , and what not

.
With Mullahs preaching that when girl is ready for babies then she should be married. What else you expect with this mind set.
Yesterday in Pakistan Mullah council stopped a bill which was saying not to allow girls to marry untill she is 18 rather than 16. They were claiming that in Islam when a girl reaches puberty she is ready for marriage. When in reality then correct translation is that when a girl reaches puberty and she is mature enough to understand what she is doing.

Wahabi Mullahs have destroyed fabric of islamic societies.

It is quite opposite picture in Big Cities
you mean dhaka? because bd is basically dhaka and surrounding villages .. :p:
its true that girls get married surprisingly early in bd, and they are actually quite happy to get married, bd girls have very short shelf life( I blame on too much rice)
bd guys on other hand want a stable job, a bike/car, may be some land before wanting to marry, so big age gap between married couples in many cases.

Didnt understand what you meant by Short shelf life.

I have failed to realise again and again why our bloody parents try to send their girls to Sasuralay at early age when these girls could become educated, income decent money and make their families happy.

This is a matter of national humiliation. We are loosing our human resource productivity thanks to poverty, older absurb traditional system such as child marriage and other shit.

Anyone be it a Hindu purohit or Muslim mullah, politician or regular people encouraging child marriage should be kicked to the jail, period.

Government should pay poor parents for foods, clothes for a girl. Apart from already providing free education and healthcare. Only condition should be if their family is small. Its a big issue in the poor class to maintain a girl, for them its considered waste of resources. People used to leave their girls in our homes for work at a early ages. We provided food, clothes, education and monthly salaries. And they used to take them when they were grown up and returning them arranged for marriages. The tradition is reduced nowadays because of rise of Garments factories. Poor girls dont like to marry now at early ages and they are not burden to their parents anymore.

It's mostly done because girls are a economical burden to the family. Government doesn't maintain law and order in Bangladesh, puts bureaucracy on the Police force and thus has turned them highly inefficient. Not to mention bribing has again risen.

Also, poor country such as ours (no matter how much Hasina boosts that we are developing) can't pay people benefits. And the rural regions are mostly lawless due to lack of police personnel and funds.
